Novice with HDTV Dish 921

I just purchased a 921 and found out that you have to have 2 satellite connections to make it work. I only have 2 cable runs that go up to the dish. I also have a tv antenna. Radio shack claims that their diplerxer will split a satellite signal into tv and satellite. I want to split it and put the antenna splitoff into the back of the 921 antenna jack and the other into the satellite jack. The second cable run already goes from the dish to the appropriate jack. Dish says the diplexer will not work, radio shack says it will. Will it work and will it split HD signals appropriately. Can anyone out their help?

I will only say that by purchasing a 921 you made a big mistake. Return it now if you can and get a 942 ASAP. YOU'RE about to embark on a long tough road with the 921. It's simply just not worth it.

Run one cable from your satellite switch (near your dishes) to your 921. You want a Dish Network seperator placed near your 921 ( and matched to your type of LNB's, probably Dish Plus) to plug that one cable into in order to split the satellite signal into two cables to plug into your 921.

This method avoids some other possible issues with the 921 and using two cables anyway and is the recommended "normal" method of installation.

There's no need (and nothing really to gain from it and it may not work as expected) to merge your broadcast tv antenna into the same cable.

You can get a seperator from just about any local Dish Retailer/Installer, or online.

but to answer your question, yes, as long as the diplexer is rated at at least 2GHZ, you should be fine to diplex the sat and antenna feeds together and then split them back apart at the receiver...

I had issues with my 921 getting 4 sats until I added a seperator... mine has been flawless ever since...
