Hi Guys sorry to intrude on your Radio disscussion.
But here is my situation:
I have a Coolsat 5000 reciever, with Standard LNBf, and 91CM Fortec dish.
Iwent to Lyngsat to see which satellite have a number of English channels to watch, after researching I realized that Galaxy 10 is good. so I pointed the dish and I got a signal of 66% after battling with the satellite probably for about 2 hours. I did a blind scan, but I got nothing but some black screens with some channel names.
should I try with a universal LNBf, or do I have to get a higher signal than 66 .
I don't know what to do.
I'm located in montreal.

What channel/names did you actually get? from there we can tell you what way the dish needs to be moved!

Did you skew the LNB?

On my setup (see my sig line) I've been getting most of the G10R transponders well. I did notice a few weeks ago 11720 V became stronger than before. That one was always the toughest to get (due to an equivalent Echostar transponder on 121).

A 18.9 degree elevation will make it seem like the dish is pointed at the ground but don't fear, it's still receiving a satellite signal. ;)

no siganl for me

I have tried to get the AMC3 signal for almost three days now, but no luck, please tell me if I'm doing something wrong.
I havr a coolsat5000, Fortec 90 cm dish and a standard LNBf.
Am I doing some thing wrong.
I have a clearview of the sky nothing is blocking.
please help.

thank you PSB

no not yet PSB, and time is running against me, because I live in Montreal it is getting freakin cold here day by day.
Al I get is black screen and some wierd chanel titles at the bottom of the screen in wierd text not english for sure, it looks like foriegn or just scrabble like computer langauge.
And thank you for unifying all my posts together.

Dear sadoun
I don't know what do you mean by "stationary Dish", I have a fortec 30'' dish, and a standard LNBF.
And by saying "skew" did you mean tilting the LNBF clockwise or counter clockwise. is that it.

A stationary dish is a fixed dish that is not mounted on a motor. Since you don't have an HH Motor, then you have a stationary dish.

?????????????

I went out and bought another LNBf, althought the one I had it was brand new too, but it was a standard one(Digiwave) , and the one I got today is fortec (Universal) but my question is . Now I need to change the option in the configuration to Universal Lnbf, but what about the LNBF freqeuncy, should it stay at 10750 or it should be 9750-10600.

My fingers are freezing, HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLp.

PSB I would take the heat and the humidity ina second compared to the deadly cold here. I know that MN is cold but man you got experience the weather here may be you will change your mind about the hot weather and the humidity.

thank you for the help

Universal L.O. should be 9750-10600

I come much further north than MN. (Glasgow Scotland) But you guys do get a lot cloder than here, I thought I had chosen the worst place in the world to be a satellite installer, maybe not :)

Low and behold I got some signal with this Fortec Universal Lnbf 9750-10600 with a quality of 87% on transponder 11720, I did a blind scan, but I got nothing but blank black screen channels in all 16 channels with names like, SNOM, DAAI, CQTV, PAC2, etc......... and they all have the $ sign on their left and they are all scrambled.
I did different type of scanning like advanced with S.R., VIPD, AIPD. but nothing came up I got those weirds channels again. I skewed the LNBF to 36 negative still samething,
So I decided to try a different reciever "Fortec Star LU", I got a signal of 55% but I got some more channels with this reciever(about 20) but they are all scrambled and have $ sign. what am I doing wrong.
it is getting frustrating.

thank you PSB

Hi guys, Amerhi,

First post for me, but I've been reading you for quite a while... And you helped me like you'd never know :). Thanks.

Amerhi, I'm in the Eastern Townships, so I know it's coldish outside lately, but you should have seen me tinkering with dishes in February... Brrrrr...

Indeed, you have the wrong satellite. You have to bring your dish back slightly to your right when facing the dish.

G10 was hard to find for me too. I spent quite a bit of time outside, with the receiver, the 19" b&w TV and the dish... Finally, after reading here about an experiment someone did, I put the dish upside down and succeeded in findng the sat. That's the way it's working best for me, here.

To succeed, you need to read a lot, a big load of patience and some determination. Consult Lynsat. Use an active transponder (1800 was a good one for me for G10)...

Gosh! Guys, you're good! It's a lot harder to explain than it seems!!!

Anyway, Amerhi, good luck!

And guys, thanks again for everything!

Dear perringo
I think I did find the G10 satelite with somewhere around 87% quality of signal, my problem now is, I'm not getting the FTA channels, all I get some blank channels I believe they are pay channels ($).
Or listen may be I'm wrong, may be its not G10 what I caught, but I cannot be that blind I did select G10/ku, and I can see it and I have a signal of 87% on the transponder 11720.

Its all about signal Quality, as mentioned above you are about 4º too far west.

I would mark the pole/mast so you can get back here and move east a fraction and try blind scan.

voom voom hold on there!

You are on Horizon's1 @ 127.0w.

Al

Oh my god, Voom Voom, I think you said something interesting, man, you hit sensitive cord, just tell me why do you think I,m on Horizon 1, 'cause i think you probably dead right (bulls Eye).
well, the title of the channels on the bottom of the screen is skermish, not english, second when I'm doing a blind scan I get some sort of a logo on the top right corner of the screen saying "PiTV", Voom Voom what is that? I went to Lyngsat to check it out, I did see the word "PiTV" 0n the Horizon 1 on the transponder 11720.
but believe me guys I swear , that on the screen I selected G10 and I get a siganl, please could some one tell me whats going.
PSB what do you think. should I move the dish to look for the satellite G10.
