non magnetic or magnetic sheet metal panels on 9 foot dish

first, i want to see if the dish panels can be made of magnetic material
or non magnetic.

im in orange county , mission viejo

im not worried about wind till it comes

1/16 is the dish panels thickkness .063

i will get the same and cut the panels to size

im worried about the material lighweight too material as well


im guessing alumminum , what do they call flexible aluminum sheets?

Say what?

Are you asking if panels can be aluminum OR steel? if so, YES!

Or are you asking if the panels can stick to the dish magnetically (instead of screwing them down) and still work?

P.S Get worried about wind, and BEFORE it comes... Especially with a large satellite dish. Plan for at least a 100mph wind, and for the dish to survive it mostly intact. Even a 50 mph wind can exert 500lbs of pressure against a dish...

You are in Orange county. Three words - Santa Ana Winds.

Aluminum or steel panels will have higher wind loading than perforated panels. The dish may need additional bracing. If it's a poorly engineered dish, their may be no way to beef it up. How many panels need replacing? If it's one or two small panels, maybe no problem. If we're talking 1/4 sections that's problematic.
 
Mesh panels appear as a solid surface during high winds. Wind only passes through the mesh panels at low wind speeds. Mesh construction is about weight, reducing the visual impact of a solid surface and not about survivability in high winds.

im thinking of doing that anyways

since the holes are to big on the mesh type that i have that i want to be able to pick up ku band frome my chapparal
and was wondering if so thats why no body uses there dish for ku as wanted and just c banc

forget about magnetic or steel its not for sticking the dish to the panels

aluminum sounds light but dont' know for sure

i dont want steel since its kind of heavy for sure

any other suggestions i have this dish gap panels

Be aware that Ku on a bud is not an easy task. Dish tuning and lnb quality is critical. Also an accurate positioner is a must. If you are just modifying a dish to receive Ku, you would be further ahead to get a decent Ku dish or replace the dish with one that is Ku capable.

How old is your dish? Most dishes manufactured in the 1990's are Ku ready. Why Don't you post a pic of your dish. Lets see what you have. The pic you have posted shows a standard mesh that looks like it would work, though it is hard to tell from the pic. If it came with both a C and Ku lnb on the feedhorn, its most likely a tuning issue or a worn out Ku lnb.

i only have three panels on right now when i decided i want to repaint it and do what i want


i stopped



i also need a motor like this one where i can switch the gear inside better luck on that one i bet
i need it to be 38v


i will post up more pics tomorrow with three panels on wich was hard enough to get them on

The material that you show in your picture is called expanded metal, or expanded mesh. It should be available from metal retailers. It can be obtained in a variety of opening sizes and different materials. A note of caution; Make sure that you understand the dimensions of expanded metals. hey mention hol sizes and separation of the holes etc. In addition they also mention thickness of the material.

That is an old orbitron isn't it? Or raydex? Expanded qluminum is worth, what, 20.00? To me, i would use any material you want; and turn it into a solar hot water dispenser by aiming it at the sun; any steel will work, as well as aluminum, whatever (plastic with spray-on metal surface). When coated correctly! The item itself is already shaped to be used as a c band reflector; and as long as the shape stays with the dish, it can be used as a c band 10 foot satellite dish. ANY MATERIAL BETTER? YES! ALUMINUM of the same type will not interact with the existing aluminum's strength. It will not oxidize this way better; as the bolts should be aluminum welds!
