Hi,

I have several camcorder DVD's that do not have commercial MACROVISION
encoding.

They will not OUTPUT on my XA3 TOSHIBA HD-DVD player!

Can it be that the TOSHIBA players are ALSO looking for MACROVISON copy
protection ?

That really SUCKS, if that is the case !!

I can play my home videos recorded on DVD-R without any problems.
The HD-A1 even upconverts them to 1080i. HD-XA1 should be able to do it too.
And no, I do not use MACROVISION :D

More likely you have an incompatible format or media. For example, Toshiba does not guarantee compatibility with all DVD+R discs, though some do work.

YIKES !!!!

What could I be doing wrong ?

I use -R discs as you do ...

I have tried the printable white discs and MEMOREX silver discs ..

Could I have another BAD TOSHIBA HD DVD Player ?

(This my 2nd machine from Crutchfield...)

Could be a format issue. Are these recorded as DVD-Video? Do they play on other DVD players (other than computer drives)?

Re: Home recorded DVD's...

These DVD 'S wil PLAY on another DVD player and NOT the Toshiba!

I use a PIONEER DVD-490S player with the HDMI output to backup the
TOSHIBA which WILL NOT output the non- Microvision video...

I have to physically change the HDMI jack each and every time the TOSHIBA will
not accept the local recording !!

What a crock or what ?

Hmm.... I can hardly imagine that Toshiba is nitpicking... are you sure you're using standard DVD format (ie not some latest UDF)?

PS: when you write a DVD, stick with v1.02, that's the safest choice.
