Can DISH give me an excellent picture, but with loud white noise audio?
It has happened four times, when I was recording by VCR, of different stations sequentially without changing the tape, with a verifiably good tape, and a verifiably good VCR (I performed some tests on both- sparing you the boring details) that I got an excellent picture, but with loud white noise audio on playback of the tape. I can not identify a pattern in the time of the programs, or the particular stations, ordinary slight cloudiness in the weather. Subsequent recording yielded good results- same tape, same VCR. I was using the automatic mode where the receiver puts out an infrared signal to control the VCR.
Possibly the receiver gets "locked in" to some mode at the start. This VCR never exhibited this problem when I was using it to record from broadcast TV.
I don't hold out much hope for appealing to the DISH customer service people- they will just say: "Is it happening now?". Non-repeatable phenomena are very difficult to debug.
