Sounds like you are already in the upgrade menu. Push exit and right arrow to system menu, hit ok button and down arrow to tv system. Push ok button and see video resolution. Right or left arrow to 480i, 480p or native tv. The x3 should work just like the f3 and they do work with 60hz tv's unless you got one with a corrupted fw.

I Have a Solid X3 Display:
Thanks Squid385 & guys, I'll follow your instructions. Picked up a reasonably priced Samsung HD Monitor today with an HDMI Port & as predicted by the guys here the Monitor has no problems with the X3's HDMI Display Port - thanks a lot!! The Openbox X3's Display Graphics, & Menus are in outstanding Color on the Monitor. I will try setting the Resolution first with the Monitor, then I guess Upgrade the X3's Firmware re k4est & Squid's instructions & North American Sat List. Then I hope I can hook it up to my Panasonic HDTV's HDMI Port and hopefully scan in a few Satellites.

....And then you can finally post us a review of it.;)

Thanks guys, going to open a new thread on X3's Resolution since its critical to its operation on USA / Canadian HDTV's.

Openbox X3 HD Rx, Resolution 1080i 60 Hz Choice is Critical to its Operation - Also What is Best Choice 720p vs 1080p or i?

Found out yesterday that the Video Resolution Choice of 1080i_60 instead of the Default Choice of 1080i_50 is Critical to its operation on our North American HDTV's. Other choices for Video Resolution are 720p or 720i for 50 or 60 Hz. My question: is 1080i or p available here in North America? And what is the best Resolution choice - 1080i or p for 60Hz or 720i or P? I left the X3 at 1080i_60 which works well for the Graphics Setups but wonder if when I finally figure out how to scan in Satellite 97.0W with my V Box III using DisEqC 1.2 will I be able to view the many Non HD Channels with that 1080i Resolution Choice?

Also when I did the latest North American 5/21 FW upgrade the X3 defaulted back to 1080i_50 instead of our required 1080i_60, so I had to hook the X3 up to my Samsung Monitor again to get it back to Video Resolution of 1080i_60 so it would work on my HDTV, wonder why? This FW Upgrade caused me a Blank Screen on my HDTV's HDMI Port 3 and a lot of worry that the FW upgrade had corrupted the Openbox X3 until I reprogrammed its Video Resolution back to 1080i_60 on the Monitor for 60Hz again!! Anyone know Why??

Because North America is not the target market for the OpenBox. ;)

This is only a one time shot. Once you do the right configuration you do your own Dump/ Tp files from there. Of course if the new release bring you back to 50hz them you need it to do again. So, the best is that once you finished your configuration which work OK for you. Make a Dump and a TP copy and dont update till you make sure the updates is test it and ready for 60hz

As far as which resolution to use, it depends on your monitor (or TV)... If you have a HDTV that has a 720p panel, use the 720p30 or 720p60 setting. Do not use a 25p or 50i/p setting, those are for Europe. If your HDTV is 1080p, use either the 1080i60 or p30 setting. Either 720p60 or 1080i60/p30 should give you a picture in any case, but the best PQ comes when the picture is not being scaled in any way (i.e., it is at the "native" resolution of your panel).

I've never heard of 720i, but it should work as well, assuming you use the 60hz setting and not the 50hz setting.

Openbox X3 Works Well with DisEqC 1.2 Antenna Setup:

Iceberg, & guys, some great news, the Openbox X3 works extremely well with a DisEqC 1.2 Motor. I have Sats 97.0W & 99.0W scanned in and No lockups No having to Reboot the Receiver, just set in DisEqC 1.0 for the C Band or Ku Band Port you need, and go ahead and scan in the channels. Also the Blind Scan happens in LESS than 5 Minutes, and HD Picture Quality is Superb on ABC HD Channels on 99.0W. Just not sure about How to scan in all channels for Both V & H Polarity. That is, on AzBox you can do a separate V and H scan to get all the channels, maybe need to do same here??
