ok i just bought a 73 inch HD tv and was excited to upgrade to HD.
i called and they came out today to set me up...guess what - no line of sight.

i was ****ed!
i called and asked if i could get the eastern arc set up but they said that they will send someone (more important i guess) to see if i can get anything...i think they are just blowing me off?

the tech guy who came said that he could prob get it if i was in my neighbors yard ( about 10 ft. into there yard)...he was looking through some kind device to determin this.
so my question is.... he was approx 6 ft. tall so if i move the pole to my yard and make it 15 ft high. or so to raise it up would that make a difference to clear the trees..as he was only viewing from his height of 6 ft or so.

will making it higher work.

he also said it was at a 20 degree angle so not very high.

heres a pic of the area he said may work in my neighbors yard.
this is about 200+ ft. away from my house.

it wont let me post a pic of my area or i would?

am i out of luck here?
i wish they would just set me up with the eastern arc set up.
that would work correct?

im in PENNSYLVANIA
and the forums says i cant post pics until i hit 15 posts.

also i give the scenario
10 ft away (in neighbors yard) =6 ft tall will work
if i move it on my land 10 ft. the other way and a 15 ft pole will that work...shouldnt need pics/location for that?

Talller may work.. But without the benefit of photos and the first three digits of your zip code we cannot help you..also I strongly urge you to consider an in line amplifier due to the length of cable from the dish to the first receiver. Also solid copper conductor cable as opposed to copper clad steel is recommended..
Needless to say you'l be paying extra all around for this install.
BTW did getting pissed get you any closer to your goal of HD bliss?....We're here to help.

you'll prolly be able to pull them in on eastern arc. which is prolly in the 45 deg elev. as opposed to the 20 deg elev you'd need to pull in the lowest western birds.

Not sure when they're going to install eastern arc in Penn, but I'd wait until then.

i asked them for eastern arc but all i got was someone will be out in a couple weeks to look at it?

another question?
how can i pick up HD locals with an antenna?

that would work for for now if i can manage that?

is it as simple as just hooking an antenna to my tv?

If you want an eastern Arc install, call me and I can put the codes on the account manually!

The issue is if your in a DMA that does not have HD locals you cannot get them if you choose to go with an eastern arc install!

yeah they told me i wouldnt get the locals HD with it but its still better than what i have now all SD.
im new here so... do you work for DISH?
what will i need to do once we talk and i get entered?
can you pm me your number?

also my account isnt a new account...i already have the dish 500 if that matters?
would be great if you can help...im desperate - lol

Existing customers are not allowed to have eastern arc yet, that is set for existing customers. Do you recall which sat they couldn't get using the 20 degrees? If it's 129 then I'm not sure what the installer is trying to do if you are in central or eastern part of the state. 129 is too low to get an usable signal. Western part can get it, but the only locals do not supply anything in PA is Erie and Harrisburg, Scranton/Wilkes Barre only has one HD channel up but that one is on 61.5. To check about ota antenna, go to either AntennaWeb or TV Fool - Home and put in your info. They will give you info on the type of antenna you would need, what channel you can get and what direction to point the antenna.

ok..for your zip......61.5 is at Azimuth 166.5 Elevation 39.4
72.7 is AZ 182 EL 42
77( to be used soon) AZ 189.4 EL 42.9..round these off...
I am not sure if you are in an Eastern Arc DMA right now..Now all that means is you'll not be able to get your locals thru you satellite. But if not getting locals means not getting satellite at all, I'd go with the satellite. Is there an Over the air solution in your area?

Well the point is, he wants HD. And it is very likely he can get 61.5, as I pointed out above. So the tech was wrong and he should have HD now without the EA.

What market are you in? Scranton is already in the Eastern Arc, and Harrisburg is to be added on the 19th. Altoona/Johnstown doesn't have HD locals, so isn't keyed for Eastern Arc, and may even be keyed for 129 for it's HD instead of 61.5, as neighboring Pittsburgh is.
Altoona was have a 20 degree angle for 129, so the installer must have been looking for that.

I would go with Claude and have him manually key you in for Eastern Arc, since if you ever get HD locals, they'll likely go on 77.

*edit* I just looked at the Dish1000 Market Exclusions Map at http://www.dishuser.net/pictures/Dish1000Exclusions.jpg
If you are in the Johnstown/Altoona market, they should never have tried 129, that market is supposed to be 61.5 for HD Nationals.
Only markets set for 129 are Pittsburgh & Erie.

perhaps he was nlos'ed for 61.5? he never did state which satellite the tech was going for, only for a point angle. most techs will try both options 129 and 61.5 if the first assigned option doesnt work. tech may have first nlos'ed 61.5, then nlos'ed 129 and mentioned point angles then.
