I do not know how to move shows from my hws to android or ipad.
It appears you must have broadband. Pfft! I live in the sticks . that's why I have satellite in the first place.
Why can't I move the show just over my network?

sent using mobile data only. no broadband in Rural America as was promised by both Presidents Bush & Obama.

The receiver just needs to be connected to internet whether it be wireless or wired. The Android and iPad generally only connect to the internet using WiFi. You have to be on the same network in the house in order to transfer shows from the Hopper with Sling to the tablet. If both devices are connected to your network then it should work just fine.

Ironic, isn't it? You can have Dish anywhere but your own home. There is this little issue of Internet handshaking/authentication with Dish servers, at least for the Sling function. I didn't know this, but it appears the handshaking is necessary for the transfer function as well.

How about for USB transfers? Same handshake with dish?

It's not by choice I have no Internet to speak of. There's no real Internet. It's cheaper just to pay for extra data on our phones than go back to satellite (had Hughes for 2 years-reeked)
Maybe someday we'll have WISP or something.
So if I tether my android connect the HWS and ipad or phone then it should be cool?
I have wifi for printing and file transfers mostly

Oh and thanks!

I didn't think there was any USB transfer! Great idea, though. There used to be, e.g. with certain Archos media players, and the rebranded PocketDish. I have no clue whether a Hopper can still do that.

So if I tether my android connect the HWS and ipad or phone then it should be cool?

I think that should work, assuming you tether both your Hopper and your iPad on the same subnet.

I bet a wooden nickel it wont work. with a real slingbox it would...but the dish sling adapter has to negotiate with the dish backend to list available receivers and such. When my internet service is down, sling adapters other than REAL slingboxes do not work at all.

I wish I had a wooden nickel. I wonder what they're worth today.

Actually, there is no reason it shouldn't work. The receivers would have internet access if using android tethering/mobile hot spot functionality to connect the lan to the internet.

The bandwidth would be minimal for the handhshaking required, even an old dial-up modem on a PC with internet connection sharing enabled would probably be sufficient.
