I just bought the new HR24 from DirecTv but, after activating I am unable to see any HD channels on the guide. I can download HD from On Demand but, I cant watch anything on ESPN, ABC… in HD. Any advice on what I am doing wrong? I am new to the world of satellite so take it slow.

  • My dish is triple feed multi-satellite LNB 18x20
  • I do not have a SWM
  • I am only using one of the tuners for now
  • Yes, I have a HDMI cable input

click on menu click on parental fav's & setup then click on set up then click on display click on preference click on guide hd channel and click on hide duplicate channels.

You need the Slimline dish. The one you are using doesn't get the hd channels. It sees the 101, 110, and 119 satellites. You need to see the 99 and 103 to get hd.

Triple LNB, 18x20 dish? That sounds like an old Phase III dish. Phase III dishes are obsolete. They look at 101, 110, and 119. Just about all of the HD channels are on 99 & 103

Do you get any channels in the 70s

No, my channels skip that span!

I found a guy on craig's list selling a slimline. I will buy and let you know what happens. but, why can I download the on demand shows in HD?

I don't know what you are paying for the Craig's List dish, but did you check the online pricing from SolidSignal or some place similar? They can have some good prices.

likely could have just gone through DirecTV as well for same basic pricing if not a possible freebie and setup to avoid his headache.

BEFORE spending all time & money on trying to upgrade, as charper eluded to - the horse is ALREADY out of the barn now... ;)

At this point, he would STILL probably be better off letting D* handle it, since he is already on the hook for 2 more years for activating a new receiver! He might even get D* to comp him on some, if not all the cost of the receiver he already bought - BUT he'll never find out until he calls them first!!! ;)

And sorry, but quite frankly, I'm always suspect of these constant "I just tried doing my own upgrade, even though I have no idea what I just did, & now it doesn't work" posts. Why you would not call D* as your first step, particularly if you're a "newbie"?
Maybe there is a reason why they do not want D* to come out???

Since you're new to the world of satellite you might not know you didn't buy the HR24, DIRECTV owns it.
