Some of you had responded on another thread where I was using my new-found FTA knowledge to put in FTA rigs in a few orphanages here in Baja Mexico.

Went this morning to one of my install "sites" to drop off a few things and check on the system and was blow away by what I found.

Another "kind" gentleman (loose term) had taken down the International dish I mounted - replaced it with an *E dish - and loaded eye-patch software on the box I left there!

Needless to say, I'm so pissed I could spit fire! Explaining theft of services just got me a shrug of the shoulders.

Truely, no good deed ever goes unpunished!

Actually got the cantina guy up and running too - no problems. Pretty sad when you have more faith in the bar guy than the orphanage huh?

When I set up a computer for someone and later they load garbage software which screws it up, I might fix it once.
But if they proceed to load more cutesy crap, I won't help them any more.

But when I GIVE a computer to someone, and they let someone else mess with it, that gets me hot under the collar. -
I don't do support for other people's garbage.

My attitude is: "You mod my stuff... you own (support) it!"

I doubt the laws are enforced in Mexico, relative to receiving foreign broadcasts.
So, it's pointless to make a stink.
But it certainly trains all the orphans, in the ways of the world.

that really sucks. I know of folks I've spoken with before about FTA and then they say "how do you get the PPV's" and crap and they assume I steal just because I have multiple dishes

Thanks for letting me vent. I'll continue to support the other orphanages, but I'm done with sat servicing at that one - but I'll continue to drop stuff by for the kids since they shouldn't need to pay for the sins of the adults.

Anole - I visited the "cantina guy" this afternoon (and he is still legal FTA). The orphanage thing really pissed him off too.

After a few frosty cold cervesas, life & attitude are MUCH better now.

Nah, I wouldn't bump the dish - can't hose the kids.

No - didn't even get the stinking int'l dish back - it was gone (but the yahoo used my mount and coax)!

You did the right thing, and that is reward enough. The fact that there are weasels in the world is unavoidable. When the orphanage gets zonked, they will call you AFTER the weasel fails restore their channels. Then the merits of FTA may become clearer to them....

The days on that box are numbred remeber the moddel number.. When all hell breaks loose and the other fool is MIA Punch up e-bay with that moddel number and watch the jaw drop...

Mike, what are the possibilities of using unhackable boxes in the future? It seems such a shame that someone can change the box YOU supplied. I believe the Traxis units can't/haven't been hacked.

I believe that the Traxis boxes and the Fortec Mercury II are not supported by hackers. Almost all other boxes are hackable.

Out of curiosity, what IS the "law" in Mexico??? Just because it's against the law in the US doesn't mean it is in Mexico. I guess EVERYTHING is against the law in Canada (from listening to the complaints ), but I've never heard any comments about what is legal in Mexico.
