510 DVR, DP Twin LNB. I started losing channels 140 through 148 (ESPN)about 3 days ago Error code 002. I corrected it the first time using power reboot. Now problem is back. Have done the whole reboot, check switch test thing. No help. In the System Info screen, 119 and 110 clean and green. T4 on 119 and SB4 on 110 both 100+. Call DN tech line twice, got 2 different answers. First time, They wanted to send a tech out for $50, I said wait. The second time, CSR said wait 24 hours and it should be fixed?? Any one heard of this type of problem. I'm suspecting a software issue as signals look good. Again, only ESPN broke, all others ok, including locals.

pull the smartcard..wait about a minute ..then put it back in..if that doesnt work have E* rehit your receiver

Update:
I omitted in the origal post that I also attempted the smartcard reset, but at the suggestion from juan I tried it again. No help, but shortly after while I was in the program guide, the ESPN 140 came back on. When I went to 144 to check, 144 went to 002, and when I went back to 140, it too had gone back to 002. Excuse me, but what is E*?

what you need to do is a memory dump which will help fo ra short period of time. try this go to menu, install diagonistics, then once there hit info theme browse, then TV VIDEO unplug the reciever it will clear the memory which will help for a little while. but you need to get a new receiver

Thanks for the reply jklein, but none of what you suggested will work on my receiver (510), other than the unplug part. I may need a memory dump, but it can't be done the way you suggested. If I need a new receiver, then it's probably cable time. A receiver should last more than 2.5 years. My G.I c-band lasted 15 years before the decoder gave out. I probably should have gone 4DTV. Nothing better than a raw feed. Soon as the weather clears here in NC, I'm trying tech service one more time (3rd call), and if no remedy is provided, this system goes in the trash were it belongs.

I was having a similar issue here in Charlotte but I was also losing 205,215,214. I was loosing transponder 4,18,6 on sat 119. It was intermittent and was exacerbated by the afternoon heat. I called support and added the warranty for 5.99. With the warranty the service call was $29.00. The tech came out and replaced the LNB which sounds like your problem. No more problems. I'll probably drop the warranty shortly after I'm sure there are no more problems.

Thanks thomasjk. The LNB was suggested earlier in the thread. After hearing X amount of suggestions, I have to make an educated decision on what to try and not just start throwing money at the problem. The LNB sounds like a good starting point. I would not have thought the problem was h/w, but I'm always learning. Is this something that I can replace myself (I'm a telecom engineer by trade) and if yes, any good source for parts? Sadoun ? Or I could go the warranty route, although I'd rather not. Thanks.

The incoming cable and connectors from the dish "can" go bad....I recently changed out some cheap Radio Shack white cable, only to find that it shorted somehow, and had to also replace the LNB....

If you can, check those connections and trace wiring from the dish to the back of your receiver also.

Yes, I believe you can replace this your self. In my case the dish is on the peak of my two story house. For $35.00 it was far easier to let Dish do the work.

On my 510, even though I had good signal strength on all the TPs that relate to
Dallas SD LIL major networks (NBC CBS, ABC, FOX, PBS), and on ESPN, etc, I was missing all of those channels. Problem persisted, even though Check Switch showed 110/119/129 were all normal (Good).

Dealer came and we replaced the F connector on the 510 coax (coax is pretty new and only 25 feet long). No change. But when he replaced the DPP Twin (Dish 1000) the problems went away. Did not re-aim the dish, since signals were high 80s, 90s-100s.

There was a spot on the back of the old DPP TWIN that was hot to the touch and dealer said this temp level was abnormal.

The other side of the DPP Twin was running the 622 via a separator and was fine on all channels! One has to conclude that one of the Twins had a fever but not the other. Strangely, I swapped the coax from the 622 to the 510 and the 510 problems persisted after a Check Switch. Maybe the 622 side of the DPP Twin was intermittent and some of the incomplete recordings and recording lockups during playback on the 622 were also caused by a failing LNB.

In N. Texas, the DPP Twin was out there in the 108 degree weather last summer and lately in the general area of some vy strong lightning. This may have accumulated to "fry" the DDP Twin.

One clue I had was that I was getting the 44-hour EPG (119/19). But the 9-day EPG (119/18) would not download. Also I was missing WGN on 119/18 and other 119/18 channels. Others that had signal but no picture, were 119/4 /6/ /8 and 110/20 Dallas LIL major SD networks - among others. When WGN on 119/18 came back after the LNB swap, so did the 9-day EPG (119/18). And so forth.

I've waited a couple days to update this thread because of the strange circumstances. I was ready to order a replacement LNB last Friday (5-25-07) when all channels mysteriously began working again. No change in weather, ambient air temps, and no action on my part other than letting a garden hose run on my ground rod for a few hours. This part of NC has not seen rain in a long time. Old telephone CO techs will know what I'm talking about. Any other explanations???
