With all the BEV activity moving satellites and transponders around, does anybody know the current status of their orbital fleet?
They started with Nimiq 1 at 91 degrees and added Nimiq 2 at 82 degrees to add HD and other programming. Then a few years ago, the acquired an old DirecTV satellite, moved it to 91 degrees and lit up 8 or 9 transponders on it that were on Nimiq 1. Now, have they acquired another DirecTV bird (renamed it Nimiq 4) and put it at 82 degrees? I'm not sure about this.
If true and there are 4 satellites in the two orbital slots, does Nimiq 4 have the same crappy footprint in most of the US as Nimiq 3? Or has Nimiq 4 have yet to launch?

This happened quite some time ago. Due to the shifter orbital position the footprint doesn't cover the entire US, but actually in Louisiana I get higher signal strength from Nimiq3 than Nimiq2.

Lyngsat has Nimiq 3 and 2 at 82W and Nimiq1 and 4 at 91W.

It should be noted that N4i DTV is only temp sat the real N4 is set to launch in 2008 and N5 is set to launch in 2009.

My gies is:

N4 to 91
N5 to 72
N1/N2 at 82

and the leased sat go bavk to their owners.

Now I dom't know if the Sat beam wil switch back to way it was before so that the entire US get the signal again or not, this I don;t know.

TOM :)

Don't worry my little copain. Get ready to buy 1 meter dishes to catch Nimiq birds in the sky. Those puny 50cm BEV dishes are useless. They can't even stand minor windstorms.
