Anybody know if this year a subscription to NHL Center Ice will also give access to games on ESPN+ since NHL.TV is no longer?

Thanks for the link. It's a very interesting discussion going on but nobody came up with an answer to the question of whether access to the games on ESPN+ would be available as with NHL.TV.

It's important for us in Hawaii and Alaska because last year DISH broadcast most of the games on transponders that did not reach Hawaii and Alaska. As a result, for almost the entire season, we would receive only 2-4 games per night and some of those were blacked out here.

At the tail end of the season, DISH moved games to lower transponders that DID reach Hawaii and Alaska but all the games were in SD.

I tried getting in touch with ESPN but they were taking only chat and constantly sent messages saying no agents were available - try again later (later never came with an agent).

I just finished speaking with DISH and as of the time I write this, they have no information on the Center Ice/ESPN+ collaboration nor if they will be able to broadcast on transponders that reach this part of the United States.

I read that that ESPN+ is going to only broadcast 25 games. TNT, TBS and ESPN and ABC broadcast the rest. The only thing is you can't watch your favorite team. ESPN, Turner release NHL schedules for 2021-22 season, featuring 78 regular season games on cable and broadcast

I read the entire NHL Network, NHL.TV and the various plans available in Canada and the US are still muddled. More so in the US but it's been difficult for the NHL to untangle the affiliation with NBC. I just read this last week in a Canadian newspaper. I'm sure it will all work out but there doesn't seem like a black and white path how it's moving forward.

It seems that the 25 games you refer to are the exclusive ESPN+ games.

From a Boston.com article:
"The innovative aspect comes in how broadly the games will be distributed across streaming services. ESPN+ will stream more than 1,100 games, and also has the rights to simulcast the Stanley Cup Final. The NHL’s out-of-market streaming package was previously the domain of NHL.TV, but will now be available only to ESPN+ subscribers."

The discussions in the previous post by RickMyers seem to indicate that we should be able to see all games as we did with NHL.TV - both home and away feeds.

A bit more info that Google said came from theathletic.com:

NHL.tv is gone. If you subscribed to NHL.tv in the United States in the past it’s not an option anymore and all out-of-market games, not on national TV, will now be carried on ESPN+.

For out-of-market games on ESPN+, fans will be able to pick between home and away broadcasts and the archive will allow for on-demand viewing at any time outside of an exclusive national window. There will also be a live DVR that allows fans to go back to the start of a game in progress.

ESPN+ will also host 75 exclusive national TV games that will also be available to Hulu subscribers. These games will be produced by ESPN itself and not simulcasts of RSNs. Games on ABC will also be simulcast on ESPN+, while games on ESPN will be available in the ESPN App, but only with a television provider login.

Of the 1,312 regular-season games, close to 1,100 will be live with just an ESPN+ subscription.

It'll be interesting to see what you get on the HULU feeds if you buy the Disney bundle to include HULU. It seems if you want the live TV part of HULU - you have to buy HULU+. The Disney bundle apparently includes only the basic ad supported version without live TV.

To answer the original question. No it won’t. Center Ice will no longer offer streaming on top of linear TV. If you want to stream out of market games (along with the ESPN+ “exclusive” games) a subscription to ESPN+ is required.

Good news is the price has dropped quite a bit. According to the latest Dish Mag it’s $50 this season.
