NFL vs CFL ???

something else, if Arena football folds, I would like to see some of those teams that did fair to begin with, franchise out in the CFL in the U.S., Football has more hold here now then say 10 or so years ago and I feel that CFL franchises in certain U.S. markets would go well.

This was tried before. Baltimore hada CFl team that they tried to name the Colts but finally played as the Baltinore CFL team. San Antonio had one too and I believe Sacramento. At this point the two leagues have a loose alliance and neither is invading the other's territory---although there has been talk of a Windsor, Ontario CFL team that would actually play in Detroit in the old stadium.

cfl did have franchises a few years ago..I guess americans cant accept "55 yard line", only 3 downs etc

CFL FOOTBALL or NO FOOTBALL for me
ill watch the nfl but complain the whole game cause its not the cfl:)
drey cup vs. super bowl would be interesting but probably a laugher cfl would kill nfl
similar to usa vs canada in wbl world baseball classic, goes to show how much money you make doesnt matter
Agree! NFL would never do it because they have too much to loose. Over paid over hyped game vs. real players with skill, drive and guts. That's why the NFL worked so hard to kill US expansion teams into the CFL.
Such a game would really define North American Football Champs though.

I guess thats why all the playersand nfl washouts who couldnt make it into the nfl head north and why all the cfl stars head south

real players with skill? Why is it then when a player cant make it in the NFL they end up in the CFL?

Geronimo, Birmingham even had one for a year and of course the XFL team there as well. In Birmingham's case, they believe taxing the hell out of everybody in the state to build a dome stadium. They believe it will bring professional football to the state. this effort has been fought real hard and so far they have come up on the losing end of it.

socalpanman and SP420, I agree CFL has more drive and passion I feel. It's tough to put together three plays for a first down when NFL takes four. Over paid is right and hype even bigger then what it should be. If the CFL champ played the superbowl champ and won, I believe it would make people think twice about what these players are payed and relize it's not all that. CFL is getting more air time every year in the U.S. so apparently someone is taking notice.

Juan, I don't believe it's about wash outs. If NFL players played rugby, could they last with out there pads? think about, it goes both ways and both leagues have there good sides, but I do find NFL boring in comparison.

boston area dtv, going to play in the CFL is more about a tougher game, skills and passion without the hype. If I was a footplayer, I would be more interested in the CFL as well.

During the "failed American experiment", the CFL was in the US for three years.

In 1992, it started with a single team in Sacramento.

In 1993, teams were added in Las Vegas, Shreveport, and eventual Grey Cup finalist Baltimore.

In 1994, Sacramento moved to San Antonio, Las Vegas folded, and Birmingham and Memphis were added. This was the year the Baltimore Stallions won the Grey Cup over the Doug Flutie-led Calgary Stampeders.

In 1995, the ax fell. Memphis and Birmingham folded immediately. Birmingham was strange in that they led the league in attendance until Labor Day. The owners of the Shreveport Pirates were considering a move to Norfolk which never came to fruition. The NFL announced that the Cleveland Browns were moving to Baltimore, so Baltimore had to move; they went to Montreal. Fred Anderson in San Antonio was hoping for someone to hang around the US, but had to pull the plug. The CFL was tired of these franchise issues, so the ax fell and all remaining US teams were terminated.

The CFL started 1995 with nine Canadian teams; they haven't looked back. In all honesty, I'd think with the right stadia, especially out west (like LA, Sacramento, Portland and Salt Lake) the CFL would fit right in. Heck, Shreveport and San Antonio did support their teams fairly well.

the idea that this would not be a good game with mixed rules is just narrow sighted. due to $$$ it will never happen.
but i'm old enough to remember.
The Chicago Charities College All-Star Game was a preseason American football game played annually (except in 1974) from 1934 to 1976 between the National Football League Champions and a team of star college seniors from the previous year. It was also known as the College All-Star Football Classic.

College All-Stars won 9 games.

not much practice for both sides like most non league games. it was a team that was the Champions playing a bunch of kids.
at the time it kicked off the football season and people loved it. but $$$ got in the way.

agreed

Some people are under the impression that Canadian's play in this league, they are as many Americans that play in this league if not more as well.

While thats true, MOST people going into the CFL go there because they can't or don't have the talent to play in the NFL.

There are a number of former CFL players that have successfully played in the NFL, but the number is quite a small percentage that could make the grade.

I can think of two players who had success moving from the CFL to the NFL. Jim Kelly and Warren Moon. Kelly playing in the USFl commanding the Run and Shoot in Houston was fun to watch. Warren Moon certainly had the talent but was cursed by playing for the Oilers.

I don't recall Jim Kelly playing in the CFL, but Doug Flutie did.....

last i heard the ncaa puts out over 30,000 football players every year. for about 350 NFL jobs. lots of players very little jobs. a spring league would be a good idea and would be supported imo if done right.

The most amazing difference was highlighted during the Grey Cup when the camera showed Canadian Prime Minister Harper sitting with the CFL Commissioner in the stands!

Could you imagine a President of the US going to an NFL game at all let alone sitting with fans?!?!
