Best I ever got from them was throwing in the superfan or giving me $5 off a month for a year if I threatened to cancel. Once I said no to both to see if they'd go deeper and they didnt.

A few months ago when I called to cancel it after deciding that nearly $400 was a little too much, they just took it off, no effort to get me to keep it.

You people do it all wrong.

When u call directv u dont outright say your cancelling sunday ticket....u say your thinking about it saying something like the extra $99 for superfan seems too much.

Then if they dont offer superfan free u say your still thinkin about it and will call back when u decide....then just call back the next day & try all over again....1 poster said it took him 5 shots till he eventually got superfan free....but he got it.

Hey, I'm not that dumb ;)

I always tell them that I like it but its just a little too expensive and do they have any offers or package deals. Then I act indecisive and waffly.

Do note that they keep track of how many offers, credits and other things they've given you, along with how long you've been a subscriber, which premium products you buy and how good you are about paying your bill on time. IIRC they have (or had) some kind of system that rated you overall with a number of 'hearts' and I think it was from zero to five. Five heart customers get freebies and credits very easily while zero to 2 heart customers arent going to get it.

I believe they also instituted a system for tracking how many times you call in, so calling multiple times may not be very effective anymore.

Once I tried emailing them to cancel the ST and they said they couldnt do that in email, but a specialist would call me. Whoever the specialist was, they made the best offers. Might have been someone in retentions.

Same question as every year:

Have you priced a family of 3 or 4 with season tix and one small meal and drink at your local stadium and it's lowly 8 games (assuming you even have a local team)? Also factor in parking, gas and your time and hassle getting there.

Easy math to do and the NFLST/SF comes out as a very good bargain considering what you get and what you can offer your 2, 5, 10+ guests at your home.

Why do we go thru this EVERY season?

Of course, if all you want to do is watch your local team, you can do that for free on your local station, right....?

You'll need superfan this year to get the games in HD, just like last year.

Not only are the games with regular NFLST in standard definition, they must have turned the quality knob all the way down. I had it without SF last year and the picture quality was awful. During the kickoff, all the white lines on the field would rainbow, the picture always looked washed out, and in general it looked like I was watching a game from the 1950's on ESPN Classic.

Got to the point by midseason that I'd prefer to watch a less desirable game on one of my HD locals than one on ST.

After considering the overall cost, I decided that this year I'd just watch whatever the networks served up. Even though my favorite team is out of market and i'm a huge football fan.

Nearly $25 a week is just a little bit too much. If it was closer to $15/week and included HD, I'd get it.
Why dont you just have a friend come over each week and split the cost with ya?

All my friends are fans of the two local teams (raiders and 49ers) while I'm a long time patriots fan. They can watch their teams play for free. I'd rather be dragged behind a car for 10 miles than watch a raider game.

Plus I have to listen to whining about "the tuck rule" for the 9th consecutive year.

If it werent for the fact that I can watch the game in HD on NFL Replay 2-3 days later, I might want to ante up the money. Bottom line is that its just too expensive for what it is. $200 with HD included would be a good price just to see the games, then charge another $100-150 for the superfan that'd include the red zone channel, the mix channel, the internet access, etc.

I'd even go $150 a year for a setup that let me watch just one teams game. Other than the pats games, 95% of the time the games I want to watch are the ones nationally televised.

just for an update:

i called and explained i will be losing my job and asked what they could do to help me afford the ST because i would have to cancel it if i didnt.......they gave it to me for 1/2 Off.......my payments are only like $20 a month for the season

I called today to cancel the ST. It just got to be too expensive and I'm currently unemployed. I was offered $20 off the early monthly price, soit would have only been $30 something for 6 months. I asked about SF and was told I could get either the discount OR SF for free but not both. I ended up cancelling since I couldn't justify the cost even at a discounted rate but I thought I'd relay my experience if someone else could benefit.

Just called them a little while ago and the guy gave me $20 off a month for six months, plus the free superfan.

He said I got the deal because I'd been a longtime directv customer and a longtime sunday ticket subscriber. Plus I'm not getting any promos or account credits at this time.

I think some of the customer service reps may be confused. The Directv website states that the early bird special is a discount of $20 for the year. I called to explain that I may need to cancel because it was getting too expensive and he told me that the best offer is the offer that all renewing subscribers are getting, which is $20 off per month for 5 months. He then told me that the total would be $279.95(without SF) for the season. I told him that is still $55.99 per month for 5 months that is advertised on the website and it should only be $35.99 per month for a total of $179.95 if I was truly getting an additional $20 per month. He understood what I was saying and corrected himself and agreed that it really wasn't much of a deal.

They ended up giving me the $20/month/six months credit but charging me for the superfan. I called again. CSR said the notes said $20/six months and free superfan so his supervisor authorized it. Today I'm seeing the credit and the free superfan.

The superfan shows on my billing activity as:

"NFL SUNDAY TICKET SuperFan 09 - Pre-Ssn Sprt Cxl"

The credit is:

"NFL SUNDAY TICKET 2009 - NFLSTSAVECR$20"

Here's my discount success story:
I called Directv back tonight and told them that I was offered $20 off for 6 consecutive months to keep the NFL Sunday Ticket. The customer rep. couldn't find that as an offer, so she noted my account and transferred me to a different department. The next rep. was able to give me the offer. I thought I'd give it a try and ask for more. I asked her if there were any offers for Superfan right now. She asked me if I had Superfan last year. I told her yes, but it was expensive and I didn't know if it was worth keeping this year (although for me it definitely is because I can't watch the games in SD anymore after having them in HD). She said that the Superfan on my account was set up for auto renewal since I had it last year, but she said that she would take it off my account to see if her computer would offer any deals for it. She told me that it was my lucky day because she told me that there is a deal that states "If the customer is equipped with an HD reciever, Superfan can be offered for free". So normally the NFL ST is $279.99+$99 (SF)=$378.99 and I got it all for $159.99 (after getting Superfan for free and $20 off my bill each month for the next 6 months).
