Well, plus the $5 downgrade fee at the end, so $29
$29 v $150 for current ST subs
$29 v $300 for new subs
Seems like a no brainer to me. The only real advantage ST still has if if there is only 1 out of market team you really, really want to follow, or you have 6 dual tuner DVRs around to record all the games.
You are right, it's not 1000 times the markup, but that's not even what I said!
I said 1000%, which is actually a low comparison. Here's the math to correct you:
Full sticker price for DirecTV Sunday Ticket: $400/year.
Full price for Dish Network Red Zone channel: $6/month for 4 months = $24/year.
$24 * 1667% = $400
I was being conservative, adding an extra month and using the advertised $300/year deal for ST. The 17 weeks is irrelavent since RZC is part of a monthly bill.
Even with your particular example of $149/year it is 620% more than NFLRZ from Dish. Still not worth it for what you get.
I've downgraded add-on packages and never been charged the $5 fee, so I wouldn't even add that in.
Also, I got 75% of the games this weekend with AAD, Dish and OTA (in addition to RZC). The costs are:
Chicago FOX and CBS - $10 month
LA FOX and CBS - $10 month
RZC - $6 month
SF/NY FOX and CBS (Standard Def) - $8 month
Total $34 month
In addition, I also get the benefit of time shifting for network shows and more choices for recording beyond football. (MLB, NCAA Tournament, etc.)

A lot of this boils down to priorities… For those who want to follow and I mean watch an entire game of their favorite out of market team NFLST is the your best and only choice and you pay for it too. For those that want to see the best parts of all games NFLRZ works perfectly.
I sub’ed to the NFLRZ and I was surprised at how much content they actually showed from all the games. I can say I saw (the parts that matter) EVERY GAME yesterday and for only $5.99. For me, it provides MORE than enough content to keep me interested at a price that is more than reasonable. IMHO

You're short by $300 million -- it's only $700 million until the end of this season.

Moreover, D* has already acquired those subscribers now; even if Dish were to pony up the cash to carry the package, only a fractional amount of the D* ST subscriber base would convert away.

I get 3 games nearly every Sunday afternoon. The NBC Sunday Night game. And the ESPN Monday Night game. So that is 5 games a week, all in HD, and I pay nothing extra for them.
Later in the season it goes up to 6 games a week, with the Thursday Night games.
And then all of the playoff games are free HD.
All told it is something around 100 NFL games, all in HD.
On top of that is all of the ESPN Sports Center coverage, the NFL Network coverage, and all of the Fox Sports channels coverages.
I don't need ST or Red Zone to get far more NFL than I care to watch. I don't watch half what I get now.
The base package deal is an incredible one for NFL coverage, especially if you live in your favorite teams' region.

I for one loved the channel. I do fantasy football every year and this channel was great for it. Between using my laptop and watching the redzone channel, I was able to know everything going on. I think having the sunday ticket would be sweet, but I would get tired of switching between the different games. Now if I had a set-up with multiple TVs in one room, then I would love to have the sunday ticket. Glad Dish got this channel. Well done.
pretty much describes my situation. i have one tv, so the only thing the sunday ticket would do is drive me crazy. the red zone shows all the important action and is absolute bliss for someone who plays fantasy football. much better than sunday ticket actually because you don't have to switch back and forth between games, or even use picture in picture. for me, this channel is really great. and you see the scoring when it happens - or very shortly afterwards. they designed this channel for me
Who gets the most out of ST? Who can watch all the games at the same time? You can't record them all. You don't know what is happening that you are missing in one of the other games until usually after the game. How much time do you spend skipping around channels? Its like buying a keg of 9 different kinds of beer at lunch. You are going to enjoy a little of some of it, but not a lot of it. If you are that much of a fan of 1 team, save the ST money and buy season tickets.

you can record 2 at once and all the games are available via Directv On Demand...
Shortcuts is a way better I can watch 4 complete games with out commericals or time outs in 2 hours.
And sorry Supercast still is my favorite feature
Supercast is a great feature, being able to watch additiona feeds on your laptop and mobile phone is a great thing.
NFL Sunday Ticket is a great package for Football diehard who want to see every play from their favorite teams, however for many people the new RedZone gives them all the NFL they want and need. I think its a great addition to Dish Network.

When I had Direct I had Sunday Ticket, there were few times I watched a whole game, I did alot of channel surfing, I found the Redzone to be a great alternative yesterday. Much of the footage was outside of the "redzone"
I totally agree. I live in an area where I get Austin, San Antonio, and with a little tweaking, I could get Waco or Victoria. Every now and again each Fox or CBS affiliate will show different games. So on any given Sunday, I could watch as many as 6 different games without paying anything extra. Besides I get to watch my Cowboys every week. Anything else is just gravy.
And no, I don't want to watch six little screens on my 52". Besides, I don't want to invest the time to record and watch every game. That just sounds silly to me. With my wife and 2 kids, and not to mention work, I just don't have that much time to "waste" sitting in front a TV.
