NFL on NBC

I thought it wasn't that great PQ wise but figured it was my television. Then I saw the highlights immediately after the game on ESPNHD and saw that it was a lot better through them than through my OTA. Guess it was NBC's fault or something then?

The picture here in Indianapolis via cable (Insight) was pristine. My expectations weren't too high, since all of the pre-seasons games (OTA and cable) were a mess--extreme macroblocking and weird blurring issues--but I was really impressed by what I saw last night. Great job NBC! Sounds like some local affiliates may have some work to do though.

Today's Penn State - Notre Dame game was okay on the wide-angle shots, but when they zoomed in or used a different camera for a close action shot and then panned, the macro-blocking was terrible.

This is off my local NBC channel via OTA, not via E*.

This particular NBC station has no digital sub-channels and claims to be allocating their full digital bandwidth to HD. If so, then the problem is coming from NBC and no provider would be able to eliminate the effects.

The penn state ND game looked awful...the ABC game Ohio State Texas ..looked great.

Ya know what sucks is that ..my wife made me watch the ND game in SD cuz she said the pixilation was making her sick!

I hope I dont have to deal with that tomorrow.

I have to wonder how much impact having your TV scale a 1080i signal to a 720p display. Maybe those with no problems have 1080i/p?
My local NBC OTA has alway had macroblocking problems on scenes with lots of action or fast pans, and the Thursday night football game was no exception. I suspect in my case that the Boise, ID NBC affiliate isn't devoting a lot of bandwith to HD, with a dedicated news channel as a sub channel. CBS OTA still has some problems on my TV, but not nearly as bad as NBC. ABC and FOX are spectacular ;)

I have two 1080p LCD displays and both were showing the problem.

I watched a few minutes of tonight's game, and then dvr'd it to watch later; but during those few minutes, I would say the quality was nowhere near as good as the quality I had on CBS for the Denver game. I looked at it using a LIL channel and then from a different OTA channel; both were nowhere up to the quality of the CBS channel this morning.
