NFL 2021

Oh boy, are the floodgates opening?

The race part of the suit, I’m not touching. But if an owner is openly tanking, then its probably suspension time.

In other news, its officially the Washington Commanders. No word on whether mid-career Naval and Coast Guard officers are offended.

Or a forced sale of the team. When the integrity of the NFL comes into question they have broad expansive powers to remedy the situation and a forced sale is not out of the realm of possibilities.

Only difference is Hue Jackson accepted Browns ownership offer to tank, and Brian Flores didn’t.

Still, it's a bad look for the league that is now embracing gambling, for teams to allegedly be tanking. I mean, we all were pretty sure there were cases of that, but it is still jarring to see some sort of evidence that it occurred.....

It is one think to pull a Florida Marlins or a Cleveland Indians (a la Major Leagues). It is another thing to pay your coach extra to not win. That is called game fixing.

Let's just put it in another light, "Derek Carr reveals owner paid him $100,000 per game to lose." What is the reaction to that? If they can demonstrate the game fixing, the Miami owner should be stripped of the franchise.

Oh, I absolutely agree that this is a very bad look- on so many levels. Not to be too overly hyperbolic, but the accusations of being asked to throw games could destroy the integrity of the league. The NFL is now in bed with DraftKings, Fanduel and Caesars. How are those accusations gonna look?? This could very well shake the NFL to its core!!

At the very least an organization that has climbed into bed with gambling to be secretly paying coaches to deliberately throw games is likely to draw the interest of the Feds, I would think. This isn't good but this is Roger the Dodger's realm he has fostered.

That is WORSE than the Pete Rose issue... in THIS case the team is losing intentionally.

Jimmy Haslam Browns owner it looks like he may have to sell. this lawsuit imo will not go forth as Discovery is far to dangerous for the league. but heads must roll.
How to fix the hiring is hard but must be done... somehow. There must be unbelievable pressure to hire Black HC's asap today.

The Browns normally don't need to TRY to tank, it just happens.
I actually gave up on the franchise, because it seemed like the ownership was stupid, and making ridiculous management decisions. Now we are hearing that it was intentional. Haslam and fraud, however, doesn't seem that far a stretch.

Gambling - The only thing that separates football and other real sports from wrestling and roller derby is the perception that the results are legitimate. If they lose that, they are in trouble. If people are tanking, head need to roll.

It is time, considering steroids and the fact that MLB is now IN BUSINESS with sport book websites and casinos, to forgive Pete Rose.

I don’t know that there is a lawsuit about tanking. Fixing, which is to say losing at the behest of gamblers, is one thing. Tanking is different. Don’t know.

Commanders. Lots of commentators have pointed out that sports writers hate 3 syllable or more names, and some 2 syllable names, and shorten them. Seahawks are the Hawks; Chargers are the Bolts, Cardinals are the Cards, Packers are the Pack, Buccaneers are the Bucs; Jaguars are the Jags; and the Patriots are the Pats.

Which makes Washington the Commies. Already seen “root for America’s team, not for the Commies” on Dallas websites.

Like I noted, the Florida Marlins were dismantled. Some football teams just can't get something moving, so they kind of give up, but ultimately, were they actually going to win much anyway. Paying a coach to lose, however, is fixing the outcome. Whether there is any benefit for gambling to me isn't as relevant.

Imagine the AFC East having a team that had their coach being paid to lose, where as other teams in the other Divisions didn't. Two win differentials in a season means a lot!
