That answers what I was going to ask ... i think.

I was going to ask, how many times Brady's been to the PS and NOT won the SB ...

I guess it would be 11.

So if you take the 7 he's won and the 11 times he didn't ....
So that means theres only been 3 years that a Brady led teams didn't at least make the playoffs .

That’s a good point about the now added playoff game for the #2 seed, but they would still have to beat (barring upsets in the divisional round) a hypothetically better #1 seed on the road. Could that happen in one season or even two? Absolutely, but it’s not a likely way to pile up playoff wins when you have to win multiple Conference Championship Games on the road. Now, if they go to an expanded playoff format with 8 teams in each conference qualifying for the postseason, that would eliminate byes all together. In that case, some team is going to win 4 postseason games EVERY season. That could obviously inflate win totals quickly. I just think Brady’s lead at this point is too much to overcome. Mahomes is probably gonna win multiple Super Bowls in his career. It’s what he does in the years that he doesn’t win the Super Bowl that will be the key whether he can catch Brady or not. One of my favorite Brady stats is this one: if you take away his 7 Super Bowl RUNS (that’s every postseason game in the years he won the Super Bowl), he still has an above .500 record at 12-11 (he’s 34-11 in the postseason, but for the sake of this discussion we’re taking away the 22 postseason wins he had in his Super Bowl years). Peyton Manning for example was 14-13 lifetime in the postseason. He won 2 Super Bowls in his career, and in those two Super Bowl runs he won a total of 7 postseason games. If you deducted those 7 wins from Manning, that gives him a 7-13 career postseason record in seasons he didn’t win it all. The point of this exercise is to show how important it is to limit the “one and dones” in the postseason. To his credit, Mahomes has done that so far. He now has a career 6-2 record in the postseason. If you deduct his 3 wins from last season’s Super Bowl run, he’s still over .500 at 3-2. The problem is he has to consistently do that for MANY years to even sniff Brady’s total (and that’s not even taken into consideration that Brady is sill actively adding to his total).View attachment 150364View attachment 150365View attachment 150366

The problem is in an era of cap, it’s going to be hard for Mahomes to achieve what Brady and few others have achieved, the chiefs are over cap going into the off season, it’s hard to pay for talent when 3 of your players account for a majority of your team cap. Mahomes/Kelce/Hill, with those 3 contracts and Fisher contract it’s going to be extremely hard to to pay other talents. They can definitely get the pieces from the draft, but being at the bottom it’s going to be hard finding an offensive linemen that is going to be a solid starter, especially at right and left tackle.
The chiefs are going to have a solid roster for another year before they will need to start a fire sale, they need to address the offensive line or Mahomes is going to have the same faith as Andrew Luck, the amount of hits he took were rough all season. Kelce is getting up there in age, he may soon see a drop off like Gronk and other predecessors.

Yep, also that one year when he had the season ending injury in 2008, that year the team didn’t make the playoffs but somehow still managed to be 11-5. If he stayed healthy and didn’t get injured in the first game of the season I bet they would have made the playoffs at least.

Yeah, Brady took discounted contracts over the years to make it easier for the Pats to sign the help he needed. Not that they should have to, but there aren't many players that would do that these days. With more QBs signing those mega contracts, it makes it harder for teams to sign other impact players....

It’s actually only one season that a Brady led team didn’t qualify for the postseason. He was a rookie 4th stringer in 2000, the Pats went 9-7 in 2002 but lost out on tiebreakers for the AFC East title to the Jets, and in 2008 Brady missed the season after tearing his ACL in Week 1 (Pats went 11-5 anyway, but lost out on tiebreakers for the AFC East title to the Dolphins)

2001- won SB (3-0 Postseason)
2002- missed postseason
2003- won SB (3-0)
2004- won SB (3-0)
2005- lost divisional round to Broncos (1-1)
2006- lost AFCCG to Colts (2-1)
2007- lost SB to Giants (2-1)
2008- tore ACL out for season
2009- lost wildcard round to Ravens (0-1)
2010- lost divisional round to Jets (0-1)
2011- lost SB to Giants (2-1)
2012- lost AFCCG to Ravens (1-1)

2014- won SB (3-0)
2015- lost AFCCG to Broncos (1-1)

The truth is, Tom Brady has been in the Super Bowl just shy of half of his career! The guy has more Super Bowl MVPs than almost every other QB has Conference Final appearances. Had the Eagles not finally figured out how to defend against the Patriots late in the fourth, it'd been 5 MVPs with over 500 yards in the air!

The most impressive part is, and this is organizational, the Patriots did this in the Cap era. That they managed this long term over 19 years is beyond belief. Tampa has put together a short term champion. The Patriots were a dynasty of a dynasty! His championships are *insert several Montreal Canadien player* or Bill Russell like when the game was much harder to do so. And that isn't as much on Brady, other than his willingness to sacrifice pay for winning (and his enduring career), as it is with the Patriots organization and coaching and secret satellite spying technology and underground spy moles.

To me without the buzz of Superbowl week the game felt flat.

This is exactly how I feel. It was just my wife and myself watching the game this year, and I said to her about an hour before kickoff that it didn’t feel like the Super Bowl. Obviously some of that was because we weren’t surrounded by people at a SB party, but I felt that way all week. No radio row this year was a contributing factor IMO.

We all know that’s not the case. I do think you may have a point about “Brady fatigue”. However, counterpoint to that would be curiosity factor to see if Brady could win one without Belichick.

You guys are on to it here. imo the reason the sports ratings are down is Sports are a gathering experience.
be it arenas, sports bars or even homes. without that we lose the fringe sports fans.
