I am new to this forum and satellite television. I have searched the forum for any relative information but have not found exactly what I need so...

I will be getting a 7.5 foot mesh dish, mount, motor.... all for free and i would like to use this for C and Ku band? I understand that C band normally requires a larger dish for good results (I am located in California, zip code 94556) , but it should work fine for Ku band right? The old owner says that it was used for a "4dtv" system. What is this 4dtv? do i need to change the LNB (or is it called a feed horn?) to use this on C/Ku? If so what type of LNB should i purchase? The equipment will not include a receiver, will a typical FTV/ MPEG-2 box be alright, I was thinking about a Fortec Star LifeTime ULTRA? And as of now my final question... does the receiver have a controller in it to move the dish or must i obtain a separate device? Thanks in advance! :)

Welcome to the SatelliteGuys.US FTA forum!

The dish should work great for KU as long as a pencil will not pass through the mesh.

Have a look at www.skyvision.com for more info on 4dtv and LNB's

I would advise getting the Fortec Lifetime Classic NA over the Ultra.

As for moving the dish, the FTA receivers won't control a BUD (Big Useful Dish, what you're getting). They control smaller motors for the 30"-1.2 meter size dishes.

You can purchase something called a V-BOX II that will translate the DiSEqC motor control commands from your coax to the ribbon cable type connection that will control your BUD's actuator arm.

The Pansat 2700 and 3500 (those two for sure) will control the polarity on your BUD (Horizontal and Vertical).
