Hello,

Thank you starting to read this.

Location : SF Bay area, california

Last year, I bought an antenna (dish small) along with a dvb mpeg2 receiver from craigslist and was able to connect to 148 orbital location [based on what I see in the installation screens.] and was able to subscribe to a couple of international channels for a few months. So far so good.

This year when I called dish, they said, I need to upgrade and get $199 to get a different set of International channels. Dish network site says these are in 121 satellite.

Again I went to craigslist and bought a 32inch dish with Ku-band LNB. I replaced the old dish with the new 32 inch dish. Same cables, same reciever.

I am unable to hook up to any satellite. First of all, am I on the right track ? Can I make this work ? Should I get a new receiver or would the same configuration work ?

If you have read this far, thanks again for taking time.

Thank You,
G.

What are you using for your elevation and azimuth?

Thank you for a quick response.

I am using the values from the Dish Network installation screens for 121

Azimuth - 162 I am using a compass to get there.
Elevation - 46

I am not sure about the value skew which is shown as 89.

I tried to connect to the 148 / 119 without success [which I am able to still get using the old dish even now ]

Thank You,
G

What model receiver do you have? What channels are you trying to subscribe to? Did you buy a Superdish for 121 or are you trying to use a Free To Air dish? The more information we have the easier to give accurate answers to you question.

Thank You for your response. Here are some additional details :

Receiver Model : 4900
I do not have a superdish. I do not know what a "free air dish" is. But the one I have is a 32" dish made by TMTHOME dish company, I guess in China.

I am trying to get channels from
Satellite 121 Transponder 17
or
Satellite 118.7 Transponder 706

Thank You.

You need a superdish to pick up 121 but that uses a DP LNB which isn't compatible with the 4900 unless you use a DP adapter that will cost as much as another receiver. The 118.7 can be received with either a dish 500+(plus) or a 1000+ again it will use Dish Pro LNBs which aren't compatible with your receiver. I think your first post said that DISH would install a system for $199, take them up on it.:) :) :)
