He sold me a 2 ehcostar2800 (i think this is the reciever) no remotes
and a dish that has two werid upside down L shaped things on the front of it pointing at the dish , also it has a thing on the top of it he said something about normal tv channels.

ok so I need to know what to do in really simple terms

will this stuff work like he said or did I get scammed?

Please HELP!!!

oh yaeh and I tryed hooking it up right to my tv with out the 2800 thing to see the news this morning but it was really fuzzy!

If you have 2 2800 recievers that isnt free to air. That's Dish Network which is a subscription servcie

so what do I need then the guy told me I could use these for free to air!
is everything wrong? Or just the 2800 things

I would have to guess that everything is wrong. Your dish for FTA must be at least 31" and usually has a single "L shaped thing" called an LNBF. You also need an FTA receiver. There are lots of them. Click on one of the ad's at the top of this page like Go Satellite or Sadoun Satellite Sales to mention a couple and look for FTA recievers. You will can get FTA kits from Sadoun that have everything needed to get started in FTA. It's a fun hobby, you just cannot use DishNet equipment to participate in it.

The 2800 things will not pick up FTA at all.

Can't imagine how the guy thought you could get FTA with a 2800 DishNet receiver, though, that one is so far off base.

Unless he meant a PANSAT 2800, but an Echostar 2800 is an older Dish Network receiver (they are black and have a card slot in the front of them, with the Dish logo if I'm not mistaken... Haven't seen one in some time.)

Even so, the OP said there that the seller did not provide any remotes. I would think it would have to be near impossible to operate most STB's without a remote.

Looks like the seller really took advantage of the lack of knowledge of the OP. I am not putting the OP down, because everyone starts out sometime. I've not been at this very long, but, I had a good seller that just happens to be a sponsor here on this board. Maybe OP can get their money back by returning the equipment.
