Hi,

Today I bought a new ViP 612 DVR and I'm having trouble getting 3 Sat. 110, 119 and 129 to be seen by my new receiver. I have two large dishes I'm using, one dish has 110 and 119 on it and then the other dish has 129. The LNB's I'm using are dual Eagle Aspen's Circ. I have a SW-64 switch that I connect those cables to and then using two of the receiver ports from the SW-64 going into the two satellite tuners ports of the receiver. The receiver only sees two of the Sat. after a switch check.

I have a Dish 311 receiver that I used only as a set-up tool on the roof and with that receiver all 3 Sat. are seen after a switch check is done. But with the ViP 612 DVR receiver it only sees Sat.110 and 119.

#1 Can I use my Eagle Aspen's and the SW-64 switch with the ViP 612 DVR receiver?

#2 Do I need to use DishPro Dual LNBF's with this receiver?

#3 What do I need to make the ViP 612 DVR receiver see the 3 Sat.?

PS I have not yet called Dish Network to activate this receiver could this be the problem?

Thanks for your help :D

If it works with your 311, it should also work with your 612. These receivers are all backwards compatible with legacy equipment. The device line of your system menu (menu-6-1-3?) should also (after a check switch) show your SW64 and all 3 satellites.

I have no idea why this is not working for your 612. Are you using two SW64 output ports that are known to be good via your 311?

I just called the dealer who sold me the receiver and he said I can't use Legacy LNB's with a ViP 612 receiver, the Dish Pro LNBF is what will make it work. Then he also said I'll have to get a Dish Pro multi-dish switch 34 to tie the satellites together. The SW64 switch that I have will not work.

Hope he is right.

Thanks for your help

Well, I don't know about the 612 but I use a 211 with legacy equipment (lnbs, sw64) without any problems whatsoever. I have read that you can use legacy with all new receivers. Maybe reset receiver, and do the check switch all over again? Apart from the dishes, it should also recognize and identify the switch.

Apart from the dishes said:
It did call out the SW 64 switch and picked up Sat. 110 and 119 but a no go with the 129 Sat.

The receiver did the software update.

I'll try the reset receiver like you said.

I didn't want to spend more money when I thought I had everything.

One more thing, I don't have the HD TV yet could that be the problem? I was hoping to get everything set-up before I get the TV. Best Buy moves into this area next month and I wanted to wait and see what they have and their prices too. Looking for a 63 inch or plus HD TV.

Again thanks guys for all your help

I am now vaguely remembering a problem with legacy setups and all the VIP receiver line... But I thought that was fixed months ago via firmware update.

No, that should not be a problem either.

I would just get a DPP twin for 110 and 119 and a DP single for 129. I'm sure you can get that stuff almost any where for cheap and it will eliminate a switch which is just another fail point anyways.

Just get a DPP twin for 110 & 119 and a DP single for 61.5 and forget about 129. The signal is better on 61.5 anyways. You should get rid of those switches anyways. Just another fail point.

Where I live too many trees in the way to get 61.5 so that's out, but a good idea.

I'm sure I have to have a switch in the line for 3 Sat.

Thanks anyway :D

Today I went and picked up the 3 Dish Pro LNBF's, I had the Dish Pro multi-dish switch 34 put them on the dish did a switch check and all 3 Sat. 110, 119 and 129 was found by the ViP 612 receiver. Next week I'll get the HD TV.

I want to thank all of you that tried to help me out.

Thanks :D
