So after being frustrated with TW and the ever changing rates, decided to move to Dish. I have the new 500 Sat that was suppossed to get local hd channels but it does not ( I have 30 channels of hd including kung fu but not ABC!). I had the locals in Cleveland on cable...

I have read quite a few posts but I am still unsure what I need to do here.

One thought is to put up the Wingard hd antenna I took down (previous owner had direct tv) and hook up to the 500 dish. Somehere I read it would take a direct input??? or do I needa diplexer??

Any help would be great, oh and hi everyone first post!:hatsoff:

You can run a cable from your antenna to the antenna in jack on your 211 or 622 and then you can enjoy all the local stuff (many local HD channels have subchannels which are not carried by satellite or cable, so you might find a bunch of new stations that you might enjoy) :)

Either a direct feed, or diplexing that HD antenna is fine. In my opinion, you're better off running a separate feed from your antenna to your HD receiver. Less chaos if problems develop down the road.

As to the absence of HD locals for Cleveland. I have no good answers for you. For whatever reason, Dish doesn't consider Cleveland a large enough market to substantiate such a thing. Which really puzzles me. They have 3 different sports (baseball, basketball, and football) played in that town. Not to mention several large colleges (go Bucks!!). At any rate, I feel you probably should've researched things a bit more thoroughly before signing onboard if local HD's were the primary purpose for getting Dish.
