HERE TO HELP YOU!
Does Not Address Local-Into-Local Service To Remaining Un-served Markets

Satellite carriers would be able to put local TV station HD signals on a separate dish, according to a new draft of the Satellite Home Viewer Extension and Reauthorization Act.

Yeah, that's pretty scary if they were going to prohibit it after Dish did it for almost every market they carry!

SHVERA Bill Stays Streamlined

Passes unanimously in House Communications, Technology & Internet Subcommittee

By John Eggerton --

The bill remained straightforward, with no amendment offered by Rep. Mike Ross (D-Ark), who has for several years been pushing a bill that would allow cable and satellite operators to import adjacent-market signals.

It is looking less likely that fixing so-called split markets by importing adjacent signals to markets that straddle state lines will be in the bill. Though Boucher said he was willing to talk about it and hoped for a resolution, he did not talk about it in his opening statement, and ranking member Cliff Stearns (R-FL) said that he "agree[d] with leaving it out of the bill at this time."

The whole one dish for LIL was rammed in at the last moment by Rupert Murdoch, when he owned Direct TV, to hamper Dish during the race to provide additional LIL's beyond the big networks. It was a pain to Dish and did cost Dish some $$$ as they had to accelerate the planned single dish LIL they had set for 3 years later. I don't think that John Malone is going to be as dastardly and go down the same road as the king of all villains: Rupert Murdoch and News Corp. John Malone does have a better relationship with Charley. Of course, Rupert greatly respected Ergen and often stated in many public interviews that Ergan was the best man out there running satellite. That compliment is probably because Rupert pulled out of his investment with Dish Network thinking it was going to never happen, but it did, and boy did it ever.

One can find testimony in front of Congress given during the middle of 2004 where the NAB and APTS voiciferously complained that Dish Network was treating some of their stations like red-headed stepchildren from the ghetto.

If Murdoch was a part of it, he had to take a number as the powerful lobbies of the broadcasters were first in line.

The push for single dish for LIL was going nowhere (Ergan had successfully blunted it) until Murdoch/Direct TV lobbied for such language to be included in the bill. Sorry, but Murdoch back then was KING of all supreme in Congress, even more powerful than NAB, and he got his way.
