ok here's the deal. I have a summer home right on the southern border of New York and Pa. I don't have access to this property in the winter. I would like to have 6 months of dish in the summer and off in the winter. I get free cable in my apartment and therefore the landlord doesn't want dishes on the building.

A friend gave me his dish antenna but not the receiver. When I called the 800 for dish network they told me I had to sign a one year contract, pay for the full year, even in the winter when I wasn't using the service. After one year I could then do 6 months on and 6 months off.

Is there a way around this? What if I bought a used receiver from ebay? Then could I go right to 6 months on and 6 months off?

Any help would be appreciated
