New SatelliteGuys format problem

photoman can you please take a screenshot of what you are seeing and email it to me? scott at satelliteguys dot us as I am not seeing it here on my 3 test PC's and 1 mac.

If there is an issue like the one you mention I really want to fix it. Scaring people off is not my intention. :)

Its annoying to me as it's not supposed to be doing that. And unfortunately there is no way to tests the ads but on the live board. If I try doing any of this on a private test site none of the ads display.

As you can tell I have been screwing with the ads for the past week now, trying to figure out the magic combination to increase earnings for the site as we have a $6,300 bill due next month for bandwidth.

The ads were doing good then just stopped working for things that we were earning $1 on we are now earning 30 cents. I was told to move the ads around in order to find the "hotspots" which would help out and bring the earnings up again. So every few days I put some ads up and see how they work. If they dont work then I move them somewhere else trying to find the magic slot.

If I had a choice (or if I won the lottery) there would not be any of the syndicated ads. :)

Just don't do something like your anal retentive competitor did and accept banner adds for pirate tv fixes.

Hmm I just got an idea...

What if I make the site AD FREE for the Memorial Day Weekend for registered members so you could see what the site is like as a Pub Member (without the extra Pub Member perks)

What do you guys think of that?

We try our best there, and block ads we find questionable as soon as we see them or as they are reported.

Google Adsense also has been having issues with its ad filter this week so it was not properly filtering out those ads.

We try our best there. :)

what happened?

the one thing I was complaining about, is gone.
was this cache-related?

edit
: stilll getting the advert with teh first post of every page
But the "push sideways" problem is gone
However, I see that other adds went away, too.

It could be, as I was never able to duplicate what you were talking about on this end.

Ok you guys are now seeing the site exactly as pub members see it (but with out all the Pub Member extras included)

Yea, and now the advert in the first post is gone.
BUT, go back and look at my post #12!

Anyway, I wasn't asking to be addless.... just bitching about the formatting issue, which is the topic of this thread.

Unfortunately I dont have the big cell phone companies paying my bills for me like Howard does at his site.

Both Dish and DirecTV have wanted to advertise here directly but i have refused them as I want to keep SatelliteGuys free and allow people to speak their mind. I don't want to risk losing a sponsor because someone said "Dish Network sucks" or "DirecTV sucks" I enjoy being able to report the good and bad about the companies and will not bow to them and start talking only positive about them because they are sponsors.
...

Not only do customers ruthlessly slam the cell phone compaines, but cell phone company employees say some very uncomplimentary things. And, some employees are so explicit they manage to get themselves fired!

There's reporting the good and the bad.... And there's sounding like a customer. Howard's commentary/reviews site is pretty soft, though.

I appreciate what you are saying. Thanks for elaborating on the issue.

Scott,

Thanks for your help. Money is a little tight right now but as soon as I am able I'd be happy to sign up as a contributor. $20 per year or 5 cents per day is a bargain and a half. Your website (and its great members) are an indispensable treasure trove of information. Keep up the good work.

Tom
