New Samsung BDP1000 FW 1.6

Did that firmware make it 1.1 or is it still 1.0? I know there were some issues, does anyone know what this firmware addresses?

Editors' note June 9, 2008: The rating of this player has been changed again to reflect changes in the marketplace.

Editors' note, updated 2/14/08: The rating of the BD-P1000 has been again lowered to reflect the disc compatibility issues that have occurred since we reviewed it. While many of the issues were eventually fixed by firmware upgrades, the new rating reflects our decreased confidence, based on the company's delays in the past, that Samsung will offer timely firmware upgrades for newly released movies.

Is there going to be a firmware released for every movie? I've been seeing that lately.

Every movie? No... but every 3-6 months likely as the keys are changed and BD+ is tweaked.

Toshiba did quarterly releases on the red side to keep up with key changes as well (plus bug fixes).

As I recall Toshiba’s firmware releases was to polish off the product, not to enable users to watch a different set of movies every few months. I updated my HD-A3 out of the box and have not updated since, and every movie ever put in it has played perfectly. There are newer updates but I say if it isn’t broke don’t fix it. Maybe when $ony was paying everyone off they shoulda paid for HD DVD QA dept. and professionalism. How is grandma six pack going to know how/deal with updating firmware all the time? I assume as these keys you mentioned get cracked or outdated another firmware has to be released, WOW.

I wonder why HD-DVD failed.
Again, you just bring negativeness to these forums every single post you make.
Mods, can you please make the nonrev emo section please? So he can go complain there all he wants about how great HD-DVD was and how horrible BD is.

Keep sticking your head in the sand.
Mods, can you create a cheerzone for Icewolf so he can have a place for fairytails.
Its not a negitive when someone simply states a fact. Its called a FACT. By the way this is a forum.

I think you guys are missing the point he's trying to make. Remember the cable card technology that came and went for tv's. All tv manufactuers weren't aren't on the same page and it was a disaster. Half the cable card tv's were a flop. If everyone is on the same page and worked together, most of these firmwares wouldn't be needed.

The usual suspects still have their heads buried in the sand. As I recall Icewolf started the argument. All I did was state a fact and he got mad because I wasn’t cheering. If Icewolf would have been totally honest and objective he could have said something like:
If everyone is on the same page and worked together, most of these firmwares wouldn't be needed.

My personal thoughts are Firmwares or Updates should be for extras or added features not to fix a problem all the time. A glich here and thier is one thing but to fix a problem with a movie or game is a little much lately. Any BD should play in any BD player no matter who the manufacture.

This is what happens when you rush a product to market to compete with the competition, with the plans of ironing out the bugs as we go along. We all know who suffers in that scenario. If HD DVD didn’t get the drop on BD with the early bow BD woulda needed as much as a year or more research and development before release to market to get it right. But they couldn't let HD DVD get to big of a head start, so here we are.

I agree to an extent. Some companies are better at working with others to ensure quality. Some companies have less than stellar engineers and software programmers. My BD10 has not had a firmware update in 8 months and has no problems playing any movie.

And yes, there were HD DVD movies that wouldn't play without a firmware update. Toshiba was pretty good at addressing issues.

That's all I was trying to say....
On every thread started to seem to take a jab... Im cool with it, I can take it. I think it's all in good fun anway but I can see how annoying it can get to others.

The only thing annoying around here is how some 'fracking' cylons around here keep getting upset with the truth. My first post simply asked what issues does this firmware address.

Back on subject does anyone know what specifically this firmware addresses. I couldn't find it.

From what I can find, all it does is improve playback compatibility in some movies. Samsungs suck...LOL!!
If ChunkyCheese would have been totally honest and objective he could have said something like: Samsung is technology challenged....
;)

Where you found this info did it say if this will be a continuously firmware thing?
