Just got a batch of H23-600's in our loadout today... as stated there is no diff between this and the H21, aside from no need for BBC filters.
They definitely are looking at saving money (pennies) with the H23 though, the packaging is less than the H21 and definitely less than the H20 full color box. Brownbag no cables, not even the brown accessory box, its a cheap envelope. And, there was no mention on it of NOT using BBC Filters unlike the naggy sticker on the H21/H20, I did not even notice a mention of it in the manual.
Been using them for about a week now. There is a sticker on the box telling you to connect the BBC's. Once you plug in the box and go through the setup, it will tell you to remove the BBC's.

i cant even count how many bad bbc's I ve swapped in the last 6 months, they get hot and fail and no longer pass signal
This entire thread is about the H23, a Non-DVR HD Receiver.
There is speculation of a possible HR23, but nothing confirmed that I have seen.
In reading the dbstalk review today, I learned that there is an ethernet port added to the H23, which is inactive at this time.
This could be used to add VOD functionality or even possibly streaming from a HR2x up the road, but that is just speculation. For now, it's just a port.
I would like to try a H23, to test how easy the box handles the transition from SWM to standard multiswitching, given the built-in BBC technology. I have a SWM LNB on my dish at home, and a plain old single lnb dish I use for camping. I'm very curious how well the receiver reacts to change.

Hoping that the H21's ethernet port also will allow for that in the future. Has anyone been able to figure out how much RAM is in the box since I would think it would need a few meg free at least to buffer content off the network to allow for any hicup's in the stream?

Oops, those pictures so fuzzy - no one of them allow to read RAM chips' label. I can't see what sat tuner chip is there - BCM2???.

Clicking on the large image like it looks like a BCM7402, there's anoter Broadcom chip, looks like BCM4507.
Those numbers typed at a top of each picture. Yes, on pictures you can read it, but I did ask for _other_ chips. Specifically.
Is there really any reason at all for getting this upgrade especially if you have to pay for it? If it functions the exact same way as the HR20-700 and you already have the converter set up, I don't see any reason for it. Am I missing something?
Overall, I think the HR20-700 is kind of weak, granted I still have my HR10-250 in the bedroom. It's a nice receiver, but I think the response time is very slow with a lot of the receiver's features. I also have a problem when sometimes when I start up the receiver, a bunch of lines appear on the screen and I have to power the IRD off and power it back on the get rid of them. This IRD also seems to make a lot of noise at times and I even have to lightly bang on the top of it to stop it from making this buzzing sound. Anyone else have any of these problems with the HR20.
Has anyone else noticed that since the latest update on the HR20, the sound takes a while to kick back in when hitting play after having the receiver on pause. I thought that this receiver worked a lot better before the update. Am I alone on this one too...
I love all the HD channels, but I have been a little discouraged by Directv as a whole lately. I'm really not digging the price increases (who really is). I am also discouraged by the quality of the pitcher on some of these so called HD channels. I think they really spend a lot of time keeping the costs down on the production of their receivers.

You keep talking about the HR2xDVR, this review and thread IS NOT about a DVR. The H2x never had the light ring and most likely never will.
I haven't had any trouble with my HR20-700 that I've had for about 2 years now, very few problems overall, works like it should, records everytime, yup , no problems, hope I didn't just jinx myself !
