I hadn't seen this before today. On the dishnetwork.com receivers page, next to the 522, there's a link to a Name Based Recording document:
http://www.dishnetwork.com/downloads/pdf/product_brochures/NBR_Standalone.pdf

It describes lots of nice detail of how an NBR product might work: timer types, frequency, priorities, etc.
[No mention of whether the 522 actually does this, or whether any other DVRs will do NBR this way.]

Steve,

By now all 522's should have the NBR software. NBR will only be available for the 522 and any FORTHCOMING Dish DVR. All 501,508, 510, 721, 921 will NOT be getting NBR.

Update: Apparently, during tonight's Charlie Chat, he said that "the 500 series will have NBR within a month".

The question is whether he even knows that there's more than one 500-series model (the 522) out there. :(

Charlie's always eating his foot - it's utterly amazing how little he knows about his own company.

don't you pay attention during the chat, that's why he has people from every department sitting next to him off camera.
That's who he is always looking over at when there is a question. :D

I've watched a couple of CCs over the years.

The problems are two-fold. One, he doesn't listen to the FEW off-camera people that actually know something, and the other is that there are so few of them that DO know something.

no hd signal?
