New National HD channels on Dish Network in 2006

What was the deal with that slide that said "FHG TV"? It just suddenly changed to "HGTV" after a few seconds.

To rehash an old topic that hasn't been rehashed in this thread yet...here's what COULD be coming up as far as "5 to 10 more channels", in order of likelyhood. (IMO of course)

Food & HDTV (done deal if Scripps can get them on the air)

Starz HD (can't believe they showed that if it's NOT a done deal.)

MHD (mid year?)

Outdoor Channel 2 (they were an early supporter.)

Torque, Coda, Sizzle, Renew, Cosmic, & Lab (Can't believe they would just drop them...it's expensive to develop new formats/graphics/ect.)

Some kind of HD Porn (only a matter of time.)

Fox HD and NatGeo HD (can they do a deal with Murdoch?)

InHD 1 & 2 (long shot)

Cinemax HD (very unlikely, but it's a selling point for HD Platnum.)

Encore HD and TMC HD (might make the HD Gold package more appealing. On the other hand, it might discourage people from upgrading to Platnum, since they would get most of the Starz and Showtime movies.)

Wealth HD (if they are still alive, they might be desparate enough to pay for carriage.)

Sleuth HD (they have a good relationship with NBC, but does anyone actually want this?)

Plus, there are 5-8 more channels still in rumor territory- TCM being the most attractive to me.

It (ENCORE HD) was not VOOM exclusive some other Cable systems carried it also it was discontinued due to low carriage, but it will return in the future, when more compaines agree to carry it
Great news ! That was the #1 channel for me to watch the most back when it was on Voom.

Hi,
I'm a new member. Got an 811 other than the glitches, The picture quality has been great. Wanted a new 622 til I read other posts about the new channels being in HD lite. What gives? Should I upgrade, or will I be unhappy with PQ.

PQ will be the same with either receiver. MPEG4 will be the only difference.

I didn't say it was a VOOM exclusive just stated it's no longer on the air

I assume this would also apply to Cinemax HD, which I also thought I saw flash by on the promo reel?

Second person that said the same about Cinemax HD on the promo. But I did not see it. I have to check the promo reel once again.

As long as Rachel Ray or Giada De Laurentis is in HD, then I will be happy! Hell they can boil dirt for all I care. Just mute and enjoy!
Ditto on De Laurentis....Even in SD she "cooks"

Yeah, Gary's right.

I've heard bad things about Starz HD, that it is "mostly up converted". But then I've also heard that Encore had a huge amount of true HD. This seems odd...all newer releases should theoretically be made available in HD. Also, major movies should be more likely to be in HD then made-for video flicks.

Starz is extremely heavy on new releases- more repetition than Showtime for sure, but less back catalog type stuff. And they don't really run much made-for-cable stuff.

Maybe they mean that Encore has more actual HD films, because by definition it's got greater variety. But I would expect Starz to be in HD more hours of the day.

Anyway, Starz HD is definately the most logical choice for the next HD premium. Then, almost every major new release film should be available in HD. I probably would rather have Encore (if they brought it back).

Starz HD since last month started delivering more HD. Even the movies that were previously upconverted have been showing in true HD. (for what it is worth).

If, by chance, they bring StarzHD and/or CinemaxHD on-line, would they be obligated to make them MPEG2 (at least at the beginning)? I'd think they would have to make them available to every Starz/Cinemax subscriber who has HD equipment, since they're not charging extra for them.

I'm not sure whether or not this is the same as changing the HD Pack by adding 2 channels and VOOM and charging an extra $5.00 for it and saying you can only get it with an MPEG4 box. (Did that make sense?)

I did not see Cinemax on the promo real, but I did see a big StarZ HD logo ;)

Cinemax was mentioned during the Charlie Chat.

As for MHD I'd rather have M-Net HD or KMTV HD so I could see artists I usually LIKE in HD.

HBO HD pq?
