New Instalation Question HELP

Hello I just joined today looking for info. I just moved in Novemeber lasty year. I have my Dish from my old home. It is a swim system? I have ALL of my recievers remotes and hardware from the home original home. My new home has CAble rewired and installed in November so wiring is Up to date for digital HD cable.

Question:
When I install my Satellite on the roof can I simply disconnect the cox wire that is entering the house and connect the coax from the satellite and use the wiring throughout the home that we are currently using for cox to connect my Directv recievers.?

The answer is a definite maybe! If there are any splitters in line you will have to remove them. Depending upon where they are you might be able to replace them with the correct type for Directv. If the line going into the house has a splitter with lines going to each room, you can probably put the right splitter in its place. You need to trace all of the lines first. Let us know what you find.

Why not simply call directv to set up a movers install, that way you get a new dish and all splitters and everything is put in correctly and professionally.

If you must self isntall, there are several threads on installing and peaking a slimline dish. Just make sure you have the power inserter installed correctly, and you know which lines go where .

Another definite maybe! You need a swm approved splitter. Check the solid signal website. They should have them. Don't forget the power inserter.

Ahh, yea that would make me want to venture into selfinstall myself. Also you could check craigslist or local retailers, explaining your situation should get you a deal, i personally would setup and peak a dish for 75usd if i didnt need to run any lines and you had everything.

Back ontopic, your install should be simple, set the dish up, making sure the mast is plum. If you dont have a torpedo level go buy one, this parts really important. From there its just a matter of moving the dish slowly with a 1/2" ratcheting wrench or similiar.

One line from dish to ground block, then a line from ground block to input of your current cox splitter, now the tricky part, you need to tone out one of the lines to pass power, home depot sells a toner kit for 20bucks or you could figure it out on your own.

Next grab your isolated line and hook it up to the red port on your swm splitter (the red one that would appear to be an output). Run inside the house and hook the red (to swm) port of the power inserter to this line. Plug the power inserter in.

Run back outside and move the rest of the lines up from the cox splitter onto the swm splitter.

Plug your receivers in and cross your fingers.

Get your wife/brother/inlaw/neighbor/dog to watch the tv on signal strength 101 (signal meters screen) and talk to you over a cell phone while you mess with the dish. When you have the highest signal tighten everything down.

This is an extremely crude writeup on peaking a dish, i covered the basics but recommend you research it further as well.

Just a note on kitty's post. I use a post level. They are easier to use and more accurate than a torpedo level.
You can get them at Home Depot or Lowes.

This one is nice but a 12" level is even better. If you don't have one, you can pick up one at the Dollar store.

Probably, but we dont know that info yet from the OP.

You need new ones that are directv approved. You'll need directv SWM splitters. These have a special port to pass voltage through and are capable of running a large amount of frequencies through
