new hardrive

ok according to my dvr book i can hook up an external hard drive i have purchased a seagate but it doesnt have sata so i purchased a western digital 1.5tb external drive. so i now need a docking statiion with sata cable.

i called dish they have no clue!! what a company!! so anyone have any ideas or suggestions to accomplish this feat?

Why don't you just buy an external hard drive that is USB?

That is the easiest way, and probably the ONLY WAY that Dish CSR's would know anything about.

While there is much debate on the subject on this forum the Dish spec for an external HD is that it must be powered ie not powered through the USB port. Does the EHD you have plugged in have a seperate power supply? Is it plugged in?

Also what model DVR do you have?

i think when i first powered everything up it said it did not recognize it.

What is an r23-700? Doesn't sound like a Dish receiver.

According to google, that is a DirecTV DVR. You might want to call them, or ask on the Direct forums.

Might be why Dish support could not help you.

R23-700 is a DirecTV receiver. Why did you call DISH about a DirecTV receiver? Of course they'd be clueless.
