new distant networks- awful quality??!!

I wonder why NPS started their venture with Dish customers of which their are many, with such awful multi-path reception signals when they new better results were and are possible?
I suggest that charges to their clients should begin when the product is of good quality and not prior to that day.
Retention should be of the uppermost concern to them. I know good quality is to me.

I am sure they would have liked to have the best PQ available when they started, but they only had 24-48 hours between signing the contract with DISH and turning on.

I do believe it was finalized quite quickly at the last minute. I also believe Charlie had this in his back pocket at least for awhile. I really hope people are not giving NPS a hard time, they seem very polite and trying their best. They really were overwhelmed by the amount of calls. PQ has greatly improved from the first day.

The Federal Magistrate decision denying the contempt proceeding stated that NPS and Echostar had entered into discussions about NPS supplying DNS service as early as May of '06. So there were early plans afoot to provide this service if the Courts invoked the nationwide injunction

Yes, but NPS was not going to spend money making improvements on the back end until a contract was signed with Charlie.

I've been having trouble with the CBS east signal out of Atlanta. It has been going to black every 5 or 10 seconds. Makes the boradcast almost unwatchable! I called and NPS seemed to minimize the problem saying something about how this would get better over the course of the evening (the other night - right before we lost signal altogether!). They said something about how this was because they were adding customers or something.
I can live with ghosting and poor image quality for a while but this blacking out thing is really a problem.

Why would PQ be so different? Are the stations providing the signal (like LIL) or is NPS somehow plucking it out of the air? Since the uplink is still E* (or is NPS paralleling with its own equipment?), any problem with quality would have to be between Atlanta/SF and Colorado, correct? Can anybody explain the difference in the technical process (studio to receiver) since NPS has taken over? Maybe NPS is using a dialup modem.......

All American Direct (AAD?) is receiving Atlanta and San Francisco stations over the air waves via VHF and UHF carriers. As most know, this is subject to multi-path reception.

Most providers in this the 21st century are using fiber optic methods.

That would explain the horrible pops on WGCL feed of two and a half men tonight.

Terrible, to quote my wife , "what the hell is wrong with the sound? If they ( the distants) are going to sound like this GET RID OF THEM, I CAN'T STAND TO LISTEN TO THIS"

Sure. But this provider, NPS/AAD, is only taking a signal and reselling it with no contract.

In order to gain a fiber feed, there will need to be a contract. And I for one don't believe that the stations in question would contract with NPS/AAD for a fibre feed.

It appears as though NPS is receiveing OTA ATSC Digital from San Francisco and backhauling a downconverted feed via MPEG2 DVB C Band to the E* uplink. Probably the same for Atlanta, only using Digicipher II C Band backhaul. That would explain the popping of the audio when the OTA receiver lost lock.

How was Dish getting fiber from NY and LA all these years if that's the case?

Speaking of this, I canceled my FOX from NPS today. I'm only concerned with SF Fox and it still looks like bad analog cable and I think 4 weeks is more than enough to get this straight. My locals look FAR better than this crap NPS is providing.

I'm happy to have distant networks-- hopefully they will improve--but at the times I have been watching it hasn't been too bad-- no audio problems.

Of course- not having locals like some of you I may not be as picky

Is the American Direct network, useful for obtaining such programing as Sports on Fox Arizona? We watched it on our Dish Network, which no longer will be carrying all those Fox channels. Is it worth it for some games, a person might not be able to view on DIsh? Just the games?
Thanks Solomite

I find that since our Dish can no longer provide distant Fox Sports stations, that the All American Direct might. Does anyone know, if it can show such Fox channels, as the Arizona Fox channel & other sports channels, which we can no longer get on our Dish? Please let me know.
