new directv user needs help

my equipment

yamaha rx-v640 a/v receiver
sony dvd
mitsubishi standard definition tv (will be upgrading to hdtv in near future)
directv hd dvr

my problem

i believe all of my hookups are ok. i programmed the remote with all of the appropriate component codes.

i'm lost at this point as to which buttons operate what component? the remote turns everything on OK, but i cant get the dvd to operate form the remote. did i do something wrong?

if you're talking about using your D* remote for operating a DVD mine doesn't work well with it either so you might have to accept that. if not just purchase a harmony remote. that's what i use

I tried to get mine to work with my Toshiba HD DVD player (yes I kept it because I have movies for it) and I can't get it to work. Won't work on the PS3 either I don't think since its bluetooth.

My remote won't control my PS3 or my Toshiba HD DVD player either. It only works with the TV and stereo.
