Regardless of the encryption, it's not unreasonable to assume the hard drive will be larger, perhaps 2T. All of the proceeding models have had increasingly larger storage capacity.
Don't know, what kind of encryption are they using for the 4K ?
When we went from Mpeg2 to Mpeg4 it used less space, are they not running 4K on something new ?
ESATA drives aren't all that common in the market, you have to look for them - they aren't on the shelf at a local retailer. Selling their own hard drive kit is a source of revenue, controls the product quality / support, and lets them treat it as an upsell. Similar to how Dish used to charge a $39 external hard drive fee (not sure if they still do that).
That said, I hope they leave the interface open to using any ESATA 500GB or larger like the current receivers, and just offer/promote their own drive.
I think you mean compression not encryption. They may eventually go to H.265(HVEC) but with current equipment will probably just use H.264 for awhile.
Fine. But at least give us 8 or more tuners, 2TB hard drive, and 200 series links.Negative. The to do lists would not share... if... dtv allows two genies

Probably the Scoreguide, weather, social tv, what's hot, pandora, etc. apps. What junk features are you referring to?
I would keep the Score Guide IF they make it the way it use to be ...Probably the Scoreguide, weather, social tv, what's hot, pandora, etc. apps.
What's the old way Scoreguide used to be? I've only had DirecTV since February so everything is new to me.I would keep the Score Guide IF they make it the way it use to be ...
Since they changed the format awhile back, I rarely ever use it ... takes way to long to load and to hard to find what your looking for compared to the old way.
Also keep Pandora ... the rest I never have used much of.
It didn't take 2 minutes to load, it didn't have upcoming games, current games and all the other garbage it does now. What's the old way Scoreguide used to be? I've only had DirecTV since February so everything is new to me.
I'm happy they have NASCAR on there but it's a joke that the Championship standings are arranged in alphabetical order (driver's last names) instead of by points position. It's a big mess.It didn't take 2 minutes to load, it didn't have upcoming games, current games and all the other garbage it does now.
I suppose it's more advanced now because it covers more sports I think and things that hardly no one looks at.
I agree, you might as well use all 8 tuners available on the swm.
I think the issue becomes how much information can be written to the hard drive at a time.
