Are most if not all HD programming encrypted?
Wouldn't this make the 8000HD box a big waste of money or am I wrong?

When blind scan capability is added, then the 8000 will be very nice. Right now, it's kind of a hassle to scan on one receiver and then enter the info into the 8000. That's what keeping me from getting an 8000

lets see

flipping between 4 HD feeds right now :)
yes two are on C-Band but the other 2 are KU band :)

Most any Primetime, I can get at least 5 C-band HD feeds. And there's always at least 1 ku HD feed 24/7 (PBS). There's fairly regular HD feeds for Sporting events on both ku and C-band. So, what do you expect?

Give it some time, it should come down in price.

The hi-def hype will slow down once we are forced out of analog OTA reception. February of 2009 will be when this should happen.

If I'm not mistaken, this month (March of '07) the production of analog TVs are supposed to cease completely. I'm not sure about that statement though. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I don't know if that's supposed to happen, but it makes sense. What I understand is starting March (right now), any tv made with a tuner, has to have a Digital tuner in it. I'm not sure if that means, no more analog tuners? I suspect both will be in them.....

I think as of right now they can have both in there. The bigger TV's have just a digital tuner in them.

Honestly an analog tuner isnt needed very often anymore. The only time it's needed is if an analog channel doesn't have a digital counterpart. So as an example, here in Minneapolis we have a bunch of religiouos channels that are low powered. If I hooked a digital only tuner to it, I couldn't get those (Equity's WUMN Univision is one of these) because there is no digital channel. Come 2009 (right now thats the cut off) these stations will either go off the air or do a "flash cut" where they will switch to digital and then have no analog counterpart. Right now most of the stations in the US have both
