Just wanted to let you know that you can add more hard drive space to your Moxi by using a USB 2.0 external hard drive. I've added an extra 500GB to mine and now I never run out of space.
Well, I went out and bought a 360GB hard drive and hooked it up to my Moxi and it recognized it and everything was fine. Free space went from 70% full to only 8% full! I was so excited that I wouldn't have to worry about space anymore. BUT, after an hour or so, the Moxi would not record of off the second tuner. I could only record something if I watched it at the same time. When I scheduled a recording or a manual recording on the second tuner, it would fail. It would say in the "Canceled and Deleted" section "Failed (no signal)". It would say that time after time again. Frustrated, I called Charter and they sent someone out to swap the box because they said that the signal is fine. So the swapped the box. Once again about one hour later, SAME PROBLEM! I called again very frustrated and they sent someone out the next day to figure out the problem. They ended up adding new cables around the exterior of the house because the existing cables were painted over and the last time this house was painted was at least 20 years ago. So they replaced the cables and the signal jumped by 13 points! So I thought that there would be no problem now. It seemed to work at first (as usual) but again SAME PROBLEM!!! Now they blamed the problem on the external hard drive. They told me that the EHD is not supported right now. I told them that the option is there in the menu and the Moxi recognizes it when I plug it in. It even writes to it. It just won't on the second tuner. But they told me that Charter has that feature disabled in this area. WHAT???
I told them that 80GB is NOT enough space for me. I came from DirecTV and DISH before that and had a 120GB DVR and even that was almost too little space for me. So how would 80GB work for me? I told them that it would not. It told them that they need to give a DVR with a bigger hard drive or I will go back to satellite!!!
They were back out to my house two hours later (7:30 pm) with a brand new (tape still over it) and different model DVR. The tech told me that since I have had nothing but trouble since signing up and because I subscribe to every channel offered by Charter (in my area at least) that Charter jumped through hoops to get me this box that technically is not available to this area yet. I asked how big the hard drive is, and he told me 160GB! Now that WILL work for me! It is a Motorola DCH6416. It's a nice sleek looking box. When it got hooked up, I was ABSOLUTELY SHOCKED at the EXCELLENT QUALITY of the analog channels. With this box
there is NO DIFFERENCE in quality between the analog and the digital! All channels are crisp, clean, damn near DVD quality! I could not believe my eyes. I have never seen analog channels look this good before. My son has a standard box and the analog channels look like crap on it. But this is night and day.
So it's been two days and I am very satisfied. This box has got to be the best DVR I've used yet (just for the excellent PQ alone). I always thought that the PQ would be the same no matter what the box. Guess not. A friend came over (who lives down the street and who has a Moxi) and couldn't believe his eyes. Now he doesn't like his Moxi anymore. He called Charter and asked for this box and they told him that it is not available in this area yet. (Cool
)
Anyway, if the Motorola DCH6416 is available in your area, I absolutely recommend it!
