New AZBox firmware

Ebay dood, that is where most here are getting them at. Better then the other GUY who rips you off by an average of $100 claiming that if you don't buy from "HIM" you will be getting a clone.. LMAO.

First of all there is absolutely no clones for AZBOX Elite/Premium HD.

Trust me.. Ebay has them at better prices then that other GUY who does not support this forum at all..

Are you talking about Rick? First, I don't think he's making as absolute a statement about clones as you claim. In fact, today I read on his site that AZbox keeps telling him that there are clones but they've never offered him any proof. Second, I don't think the ebay guy supports this site either. Even though I'll probably buy from the ebay guy if I ever buy an AZbox, I'm not sure what the animosity towards Rick, who's never done anything but good for the hobby, is all about.

Rick is not a bad guy, I visit his site a few times a week. Lots of valuable information there. I just wish he would make his site members only so that Google wouldn't index the feeds.

his site says
ORIGINAL AZ Box Elite HD
Not A CLONE!

huh...Ive heard there are no clones

none of our sponsers sell the azbox

Well I havent had good results when I bought the Quali from him. I had an issue (all the analog ports went out at the same time right after a weekend). I sent him a nice e-mail with the issue, everything I tried and photos to back up what I had.
His response? check the caps because I dont know what it could be.

He even had the nerve to mention getting a new receiver

He only sold that unit for what? 3-4 years or more? And folks have had issues with the receiver and usually its the whole motherboard that gets replaced. But yet I have a Q with only HDMI & AC-3 working

a year + about 2 weeks. I gave him the exact date and the info I still had.

I guess when someone "claims" to stand behind the product then wont even give an option to repair it (since he imported them he had the boards available...he mentioned it in the email) and says "oh you might want to buy a new receiver" that really isnt customer service in my mind.

Keep in mind that AZBox produces more than just the Elite and Premium models.
I have, and posted here, an email from Hugo, the AZBox CEO, stating that there are no known clones of the Elite and / or Premium models.
I have not seen anyone post an email from AZBox stating otherwise.
To me, if there were clones available, we would see / read something on the European Forums.

1) save and load channel list from USB stick
2) remove recording 20 Mbps cap.
3) ability to rename recorded file.
New Firmware today, 10/28, 0.9.3686
1) It does now have the ability to save the channels to a USB Drive
2) I believe that will never happen, just my feeling.
3) I doubt if you will be able to "rename" a recording, 'cause there is more than 1 file that makes up a recording. I wonder if there could a "name" a recording option, you could specify the desired name when the recording is set up?

Again, 2 & 3 are my personal opinions / feelings / assumptions.

thanks for the update Lak7

#2 they put that carrot out there. should have not said it if they could not do it

#3 could happen by putting the recording in 1 folder and that folder having a name.
my sv-8000 does it i have a 6 hour recording of 72 gigs 1 folder God knows how many files. it has a 1.5 gig limit.

if we sit on our hands now and don't ask for what we want we will get little or nothing. the euro people are getting their stuff by asking.

by the way the company forum is now open
had to re register

Rick Caylor is a really good guy in my opinion. I emailed his site (store) regarding the purchase of an AZBox Premium model and he responded personally and gave me direct and honest information right to the letter.

I took his response as being totally open and honest and I respect that. He reminded me of the old Christmas movie "Miracle on 34th Street" where Gimble's Santa was sending customers to Macy's to find the product or toy that the customer wanted when they were out of stock.

Hello Gents
I have a question regarding the AZBox Premium mode, do you get to choose the tuners when you order? or which tuners are installed by default.
Thanks in advance.

Chewie-
As of "today" the only add-on tuners available are DVB-C & DVB-T.
Neither are useful in North America.

When you order the AZBox Elite or Premium, it comes with ONE tuner installed as stock and that tuner is a DVB-S/S2 tuner. Currently, if you want a dual tuner unit, two DVB-S/S2 tuners, you have to order two receivers (I know, that is an outlandish suggestion). But, the tuners are not available separately yet that I can find anywhere in the US, Canada, Mexico, or most of Europe. In Ireland, there is a retailer that advertises cable or terrestrial tuners in stock (or did).

I have searched all over for a second DVB-S/S2 tuner and couldn't find an outlet for them yet, so I bought a second receiver to rob the tuner out of to test. Problem here is, the receiver I ordered is now on back-order indefinitely. Awhh crud!

Now, in doing some research unrelated to the tuner aspect, I found the release notes for all of the official and the unofficial AZBox Image files.

Within those release notes I did find mention from OpenSat that dual DVB-S2 tuner operation is and has been supported for quite a while. However, they also mentioned that they were not concentrating upon the support of the dual tuner setup just yet as they wanted to iron out the bugs for single tuner use first.

I guess I can understand this way of thinking.

I don't know if this is good news to anyone or bad news, but at least it is some tidbit of information for you to munch on for now.

Why wouldn't you just order an Elite?

If you dress up in a nice tuxedo suit and your wife in a nice ball gown dress and you lease a limousine, would you go to McDonalds to eat?

hee hee ;)

Nawh! Seriously, I like the WiFi option and the option to install an internal 1 TB HDD and the advantage of the external power supply and TWO USB ports. These four items are worth the additional $75 or so to me. I really love the WiFi!
