New 4k Tv, some shows jitter

Just bought a Samsung KU6300 60" 4K TV on black friday.
taking getting used to replacing my 61" Samsung DLP thats ~9-10yrs old. Most is good, its brighter, better sound. But I can't figure if it a TV setting, Dish issue; but watching some shows; say Designated Survivor for example, particularly when people are walking, it's like watching youtube on dialup. Theres a lag, or a jitter on the screen. Sound is normal.

I've tried some changes from http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/samsung/ku6300/settings but not really sure which ones I need to tweak.

Anyone here have any advise, or a better forum?

The 6000 series has bad judder, no way around it. I bought one last year, and was not happy with it. Just replaced it with an 8000 series and am much happier and don't notice judder. Here is a review of the 6300...towards the bottom it talks about judder.

I saw what you saw on Designated Survivor....on my Plasma. It was something on ABC's end. I have the same TV and have not seen any objectionable jutter, particularly with movies as one of the reviews claimed.

Maybe it is more of the sender's side. I haven't noticed it often.
So I just swapped the HDMI cable (several years old) out with the one that came from Dish (says high speed, old one did not). I think that helped 50%. Might need to play with the auto motion plus setting a bit to see if I can find a 'sweet' spot.

Anyone know how to get the led clear motion function to work/enable?

I have auto motion on Custom, Judder at 1. I would leave led clear motion off.

My first step with a Samsung would be turn off Auto Motion, or if like my set put it on "Clear" Using Auto Motion for live TV works well if you like smooth motion, but not for recorded programs or movies like on HBO.

is there a way to have the TV show what setting its using? I don't know what its called, but say if I'm watching a Dish show, I could see if it's 720p, 1080i/p, etc...

Thanks, found a big thread on AVS, I'm slowing going thru it.

The new TV has a 'smart' remote; only has like 5 buttons, none say info. MY old remote, & my bedroom samsung remote, pressing info brings up the Dish info screen. weird.

Mine has the same remote. I just select the input (HDMI1) again and it then shows me in the upper right corner of I am viewing (720, 1080, etc).

Ok, that does it; but watching an old Everybody love Ray, it still was something like 1920x1080i 60Hz (I think something like that); so I guess that the signal the Hopper is sending; but I doubt that the quality of the show itself.

That is correct. What the TV reports is whatever the DISH receiver is set to not what the actual channel resolution is. To test that pick an ABC or Fox local channel both of which only broadcast in 720 and the TV will report 1080I if that is what the receiver is set to. The receiver is up converting but you are not getting true 1080I. It will also say 1080I for an SD (480I) channel.

You're, or we are, screwed multiple ways. The box is scaling stuff, then your TV is scaling everything. Unless of course you're watching a true 4k source.

The best option is a box with native mode, but that presents its own problems, because even if you're getting 720p your TV still has to convert it to its own native resolution.


You have to play with your box resolution to get the best match with what you watch the most along with how well the TV converts it.

For the TV you want to turn off every image enhancement feature, then try different settings to see what works best. Movie and film settings may help, low clear motion settings may help as well.

A TON of trial and error, but fortunately the folks over at AVS forums can give you a decent starting point.

A dedicated scaler is usually the best option. I forget what the cheap inline scaler is, I'll go look for it.

iScan mini has been a popular solution. available much cheaper than the MSRP.

Can't link it, but it's a dvdo product.

Lumagen is great, but would put a huge dent in your wallet, even at a dealer price.

I have a Samsung UHD display from 2014 and have experienced the same judder issue with the Hopper 3, depending on the program source. The worst offender is "Designated Survivor" on ABC. Why this program has more judder than others I don't know. Some other programs have judder, but only minimal amounts. I have adjusted the set's auto motion/judder settings to get rid of most of the annoyance. In my case, I modified the set's AM settings to bring it almost to the point of inducing the "soap opera" effect. Seems to work in most cases. Never encountered this issue with the DTV Genie.

Thanks. I'm noticing it mostly on ABC shows now; not so much on others. If Dish ever gets OTA device again, I'd be curious to see if it changes.
I'm not going to buy any other devices; It's just slightly annoying, not $200 annoying!
Dish and antenna are going to be my highest quality sources for the foreseeable future. I only get 8-10M internets speeds, H3 won't even let me download a 4K show. Don't have any blu-ray; so this will be livable for the next few years. Hope I can get 8-10yrs from it like the 1080p DLP sammy it replaced.

Might this have something to do with the fact that ABC is 720p? If the program is shot on film, it would be converted to 24 frames per second to 60 frames per second. Then somewhere it is converted to 1080i to be sent to the TV unless the receiver is set to output 720p. The TV then needs to convert it to it's native UHD resolution and probably 60 Hz progressive. If anything in the chain gets the 24->30 pulldown wrong it would cause other devices to try to fix it possibly creating more issues.
