When does the new season start?

The best answer I can come up with is September 17. That's when the major networks begin showing mostly new, original series slated for the fall schedule. However, there are fall series season premieres, even for dramas, prior to that, on some smaller broadcast and cable networks:

Monday, August 31
Greek (ABC Family) "The Day After"

Monday, September 7
Durham County (ION) "What Lies Beneath"

CW starts this week, the others not for 2 more weeks.
