Problem is most D* installers are idiots. D* hires them if they have a truck, a ladder and can fog a mirror with their nose.

Your right, they are not all idoits. There is a good portion of them that are theives that will steal the HDMI cable out of the box and sell it back to you for 100 bucks.========
Vurbano,
Not all DTV installers are idiots. The ones I know that are not idiots are also not doing DTV anymore.
Having read the horror stories on this forum, I made sure everything was ready for the D* installer. I dug a hole and put in the pole. I extended my existing coax to the pole. I pulled out my E* receiver and labeled all the wires.
I'm glad I was prepared because the guy who came out had 1 dish, 1 receiver, and 1 $30 meter. Nothing else in his truck but a 6 foot folding step ladder.
He had already assembled the dish, so he sat it on the pole and hooked up the receiver and the meter. It seemed to take him a while to align the dish, but he finally announced all was fine. He was at my house for no more than an hour. He didn't instill in me the confidence I was looking for when he said, "I haven't installed many of the slim line dishes." I'm really thankful that I'm not posting one of the bad experiences that others have had.
Then of course you have the portion that things a free 125 foot run means laying the cable down the hallway or in the grass and not dropping it down a wall cavity. This and other forums are chock full of those crooks.

This is why I am getting out of this miserable business. People like you think we are all scum. Even techs like myself that take the necessary steps to do quality work. I am sick and tired of people like you who have a prejudice against non employees of D* or E*, meaning contractors..I will put my work up against any one of these people in an instant.
Eventually you all will get what you deserve after all the good people get out of the satellite installation trade. You'll be left with a bunch of pot smoking $10 per hour snot nose jerks who don't give a sh*t about you ,your home or their job.. Go on, keep it up.
14,000 posts vurbano, and you're still not done lumping all techs into the same pile. If you are a satellite customer , I advise you to never call the satco. Learn to fx your own stuff. This will save you from having one of us "idiots" in your home.
Yep. Soon there will be two less idiots vurbano and those like him will have to worry about.Yep. I have been taking the advice of all those who said “if you don’t like it, find another job”. I guess I too am an idiot....for not doing so sooner.

And when an inexperienced tech comes to his home, he'll start the frantic search for our cell phone numbers. And we will say " hey why are you calling us? You said we were idiots".
What goes around comes around.
Yep..and quickly the poor unfortunate customers stuck in the middle of this nonsense will sufferNope four.
Lets the Do it free guys have it.

I noticed the apartment complex in the pics... I would try to be neat there too. as much as possible anyway. We are required to do a basic install at no charge but all "custom work" is chargeable. I will do little stuff like add a splitter to light up a mirror outlet that's prewired for free. Or straighten out an existing wall plate .Little stuff that customers love as nice touches. Oh yeah the broom and dustpan thing works great as well. Walk into a home with that and they will make you lunch.Iam not pisssed per se. I am using harsh words to make a point that I won't tolerate blanket accusations.Vurbano,
There is nothing in the specification about hiding wire. Ask DTV what is in a basic installation.
The system was not designed with apartments in mind and all the pictures you see are of exterior cable runs.
As the money offered for installations drops you get choices. You do it. Pay the installer to do it or do it yourself.(DIY)
Personally, my jobs are neat because I try to work near home. Installation prices limit you in how far you can go. I charge for stuff not part of the basic installation list. Most jobs go in without extra charges.
If a customer has already done most of the installation I am good for a favor......like cleaning out the gutters while on the roof.
Nobody out here is a crook; contractors mon!
And I think you should bake some cookies for dishcomm.......he seems a bit p.o. ed at you.
