where my mother lives(Belize C.A) they do not offer any type of broadband. so we need a sat set up.. what we where told is that she would need at least a 6' dish in order to ensure that she always got a good signal, but sat. is a new thing to me.. I've called around to some places and I've been treated like i was stupid. any clue on where i can go or maybe what i should ask for? thanks John

That's crazy, if she goes with starband or hughesnet it's a smallish about 3ft dish, Wild blue a little smaller.

Don't believe the 6ft opinion.......

Starband allows self installs if you wanted to do it for her. HN and WB do not.

Figure on around $299.99 for the equipment and about $49 to $59 for the lowest priced plans

Do your due diligence on all three providers, especially FAP limitations and what does not work well over low cost residential shared bandwidth sat services, like VOIP, VPN, action based gaming and anything that does not tolerate high ping times.

how is reliability of the 3foot dish? will it go down in heavy rain? of thick cloud becuase they have a bad rainy season... thanks J

Sorry I miss read your post. I thought you were discussing California. My bad mistake. On Satamex 6 with HN you can get by with the smaller .75 meter dish.
with Starband you would need the 1.2 meter that is Oval and about 50 inches X 54 across.

Wild blue won't work at all down there so you can forget about that

Both will hold up well to heavy rain with the above sizes if properly installed and peaked. it would take the heaviest part of a down pour to knock you off line.
