Need OTA Connection Help

If its the 222k there is no OTA in it...you have to get the module

we need to verify what model receiver you have. Dish wont activate a DVR receiver without DVR service

that makes a difference :)
The 222k has no OTA tuner in it unless you add the module to it

Best option is to just hook the antenna directly to the TV

That's the way it was when I had cable, and it picked up great. Every now and then I had to fine tune it. After changing to satellite, the signal is very weak, sometmes shows 0. I ordered a module, so hope that will take care of the problem.

When you had cable you went from the indoor antenna to an amplifier to the input on the TV, the same setup should still work. Adding a module to the 222K won't improve signals. Look for changes to your OTA components, did you change the location or did you forget to plug in the amplifier. It should be something basic that is different from then to now.

I didn't change anything. The antenna was still hooked up the same as when I had cable, except now the signal is way to low to pick up. I just checked the signal strength and it was 0.

This is my indoor antenna. It's a Philips, not very fancy, but it worked. There is a tuning knob on it that I would turn to get a better signal.

I did just finally get a dvd recorder connected, tried before and something wasn't right. Connected the cables and started pushing the video button on the tv and a picture showed up on video 2. When I had cable, I had a dvd/vcr connected. I had to unhook everything to remove the cable box, and decided to connect the dvd recorder which I had never used. At least that's one hurdle I've made. As soon as I can figure out the ota problem, I'll be set. :)

The ota module came today, and have it installed. It seems to work fine, I'm able to pick up local otas like This tv. However, I'm still not able to pick up the channels that have the old programs like RTV. I love those. I checked antenna web and it shows it being a distance of 11 miles. The ones I'm picking up are farther, odd. I tried using a different antenna, but it wouldn't pick up, so I may need to see about getting a stronger indoor antenna. Seems like if I can pick up a channel 20 miles away, I should be able to pick one up 11 miles away, unless there is some interference I don't know about.

Also be sure to check if the channels in your area are uhf or vhf.Could actually be both although most now broadcast on uhf. Some antennas are vhf only and that would explain why you don't get some of your locals. That said an outdoor uhf/vhf combo antenna will beat any indoor antenna.I'm guessing you get Nashville TN locals.Looking at the list at rabbitears.info I see that at least 3 of them are on VHF the rest are all UHF.

Yes, I do get my locals from Nashville. I believe the channels I'm missing are VHF. They are only running off 300 watts. Rick Goetz, the owner, said last Dec. that he has a permit to go to 15,000 watts, but don't think it has happened yet. I just rescanned a little while ago and picked up 27 channels. That's the most I've gotten in the 3 times I have scanned. Going to check into other antennas. Thank you for your reply.

you must be talking about WRTN 6 (digital 7)

Yeah they are only at 300 watts right now
Both PBS and NBC are still on VHF. PBS is using 8 as its channel and NBC is using 10 (but it remaps back to 4)

Yes, that's it. When I was getting them before, they were on 6.2 and 6.4 and TUFF TV on 6.5. I can pick up the NBC and PBS (2 of them now) channels.

You may want to double check that the RTV subchannel is still operational. They took off ours in the Detroit area (7.2 if I remember right).

Who did you get your Dish from? It may have saved you a lot of headaches if you talked to a local retailer or people on here first.

He may have too much amplification, as mentioned by another poster. Something changed, but he may not be aware of it, especially when a sat installer is involved, they can change things a non power user would not notice or understand.
