Need Help With SES3 **Update**

Hi All,

I appreciate all the good suggestions.
Unfortunately this may have to wait until the spring as I don't have deep pockets and this whole process sounds expensive.
I would prefer to have this done by people who have the proper equipment, for safety's sake (sorry Cosmo ;))
Doing it with a few friends sounds too risky. If any of you know of people qualified to do this, please give me a shout.
16 years ago it just took 3 people to set this up with me. How times have changed.
Thanks.

John

Just a suggestion for down the road... Check with a boom/crane company and they will pluck it off the pole and have it setting on the ground in 15 minutes or less. If you have a lower pole set, they could drop right onto it. Sometimes the companies will give a great rate if they have an open time after finishing another job early and swing by with an hour notice. I had a local company that charged $150 to pluck a 10' off of a 3 story building with an open appointment.

Brian,

Thanks for that suggestion, however I would like the pole removed also as I have no need for it without the dish on it.
Its kind of strange to me that the only satellite I receive signals on, is Galaxy16 and only the Lesea feeds, NHK and RT. The last 2 scanned in when I scanned C band only. :imconfused

NHK and RT are Ku band on 99w... Lesea is C-band. Maybe you are getting both bands?
A bucket truck would be nice for working on that dish. Having it up so high makes it very difficult to maintain without a lot of expense. If you can find a spot on the ground that gives you line-of-sight to the satellites you are intrested in getting you would certainly want to consider moving it down. Problem is usually the dish was placed up high in order to catch more of the arc...

If cost is a concern, removal of the existing pole would end up on a wish list!

Brian

My wife has told me several times that she doesn't like the dish or pole location. I put it up before we married ;)
I think she would see the un-dished pole as even uglier. I hope when I get this done, its dish off and pole down altogether.
I do have a new dish location all picked out. Removed many trees in the 16 years since the dish and pole first went up. Height isn't a necessity any more for most of the arc.

Either that or the switch programming.
That would be the case if you scanned in NHK and RT on C band. They are on Ku @ 12036 Mhz. (sathint) If you scanned them in on C the freq would read 5150 - (12036 -10750) = 3864 (3862 to 3866)

Somebody who has a tree-cutting service and a boom truck could probably handle taking the dish down for cheap money, the pole...don't know. I know a guy who operates around here that's topped some trees for me and I've seen him move/lower some pretty big and heavy logs with the bucket on his truck, heavier than what a dish would weigh. Charges me $250 to top off big trees and usually takes a hour or two, I'd think lowering the dish down would be much quicker. I know he's only insured and all for MA and CT though, so he couldn't do it himself, but it may be worth checking with tree service companies up there.

Hi All,

While I'm figuring the best and least expensive way to lower my dish and pole (thanks again for all the suggestions), I'm still at a loss as to why my system went "belly up" so fast. Last night after rechecking all my connections behind my 4DTV and the micro HD, I removed from my micro HD, all the transponders listed on AMC 18. I then did a detailed rescan. My receiver found all the FTA available on that satellite, but when I went to view, there was no signal. How is this possible ? Doesn't it need a strong signal to find these in the first place ?
