need help setting up

Hi My name is Raykraan. I am new in this foram. I am happy to join with all of you. I need help. I have Viewsat 9000 HD with 8 psk card.36" dish and motor. I can not get picture out of it. Is there any web page or CD or book available that I can have so I can learn how to tune the receiver and which satelite I shall tune to. Can any one help me please. Thanks

Hi Ray,
Welcome to the hobby. I see you are new to discussion forums as well, so let me point out a few things about forum etiquette.
The main thing is if you have a question on a specific topic that is not the topic of the thread your in, you should post a new topic with your question. Diverting a discussion "Off Topic" is considered bad manners, and frowned upon.
Another thing to remember is that on this forum, discussion of how to steal satellite signals is prohibitted, and will get you promptly escorted to the door.
The FTA unit you have is useful for true SD FTA, but it uses an add on board that is exclusively for decoding (stealing) DN HD signals. It is incompatable with true FTA HD. There are members on the board that use that model and can be a great source of info for you to get set up to view true FTA channels.
Post you Q again in the FTA section using new post option and you should get some help. Be detailed in the equipment you have and what you are interested in seeing if you know.

I understand what you are trying to say, but I think it is a bit unfair to suggest that the turbo 8PSK is "exclusively" for stealing DN. I've never use one of these add on boards, but I'd be willing to bet that there is true FTA to be found on the DN 8PSK transponders. There is true FTA on the QPSK DN transponders, so I doubt that the 8PSK transponders are any different. I've been thinking of getting a receiver with one of these boards myself, just to look around and see what's there. Also, while the add on 8PSK board may be just for DN signals and not for regular DVB-S2 8PSK, the receiver itself is certainly useful for more than just SD FTA, and is not incompatable with true FTA HD.

As far as I know no one uses Turbo HD except Dish Network, not even EVu. As I understand it, it is a 'proprietary' [aka bastardized] mode. Everything I've read on the 'Turbo HD' addon boards says it is incompatable with the S2 that is broadcast FTA. There are only a handful of mfgrs that build units that do DVB-S2 used for TFTA 'out of the box' and they are not usable to rx (steal) Dish's HD broadcasts due to the proprietary TurboFEC mode.
Like you, I have considered getting one [a SV8000] but I have not made the investment into one of these since my understanding is that they are not TFTA S2 compatable. If I have misunderstood then allow me to retract my original statement regarding the Turbo addon board.
Dish will (supposedly) have their signal secure in the very near future, and I expect to see a flood of 'useless' FTA boxes including the TurboFEC units on Fleabay, Craigslist, etc. not long after the hackware dies off.
