I only have an SD TV at this time (building a new house and waiting for it before I get the HD big screen). I live in a rural area that does not offer cable (between a cotton field and a soybean field). I currently have a 522 DVR that works fine. We have 2 kids and don’t watch anything that is not recorded. The problem is there is one local station (ABC) in our area. That means I can get CBS, NBC, and FOX out of Atlanta, but the FCC says I can’t get another ABC except from my local source (Jackson, TN; not offered by Dish or Direct) so the only way to get it is off of the antenna.
I can pick up local ABC on the antenna, but can not record off of the antenna on the 522. (I can record to the VCR, but that is just silly). Is there any way to record off of the antenna onto the 522? Or is there another DVR that will allow me to connect an antenna and record?
I have seen a lot of talk about the issues surrounding the 9xx dvrs that are about to be obsoleted. My understanding is they will still work for SD signal. Can they record off of the antenna and if so would that be a solution. It looks like I could probably pick one up cheap in about a month.
