You don't need the phone line, but you do need the card. Are you getting any signal strength showing on the meters at all?

No, no phone connection is need BUT the first and main issue sounds like you are not subscribed at all and may not have the "newest" access card needed. You may also not be aiming the dish correctly as there is 1 or 2 free channels out there to setup with; not really enough info to go by sorry. This statement is a bit of concern; can you explain it?

i add some more information. i don't see any channels. i went to point dish setting and i setup manually now signal is 91

Sorry Chip, didnt mean to double up on you.

No problem, I missed the part about him not wanting to spend money. OP, you aren't trying to hack the system are you? We don't do that here.

I mean i would like to use my dish and watch TV. Now i don't have any service. i had it before and when i go out of country i cancel my service but i still have my equipment. now i moved back and want to use my equipment for watch TV. Do i have to start service again or can i set up myself and start watching again?

You have to call Directv and activate the account.

Yep, you have to call to activate the account and depending on how long its been and what you want to watch (say HD) you may need to upgrade your hardware AND they may be willing to do all that for free. So if that is the case; they get all you can now for free during your updgrade; be sure to think ahead. Example: Get as many receivers as you think you may need, but maybe not today; get the internet connection setup; again, you may not NEED it today, but if they will offer it free, get it.

You more than likely won't be able to activate service with the recvr you mentioned in the original post, unless thats an add on recvr.

They won't turn on service with old equipment being the ONLY one.

That said, if your turning service on now, you can get all the newer stuff and skip the one you currently have.

The recver you have currently probably is lacking compared to what is being used now anyways.
