Need Help 920 4dtv

Al that's technical gargon I can't understand. I assume that your saying the 920 will not store the DVB settings, nor will the DVB store those settings?

Another question about the 920. Does it matter which coax cable goes in which place in the back of the unit? I mean can the c coax go in the k slot and can the k coax go in the c slot?

Can I use a DVB with a LNB? I'm not sure whether I have a LNB of LNBF.

Your right I could write everything down, but that could be more trouble than it's worth to have to reset everything occasionally.

well about 60% of the time i have my dish parked on one satellite so it might not be a bad option since its low cost :)

if you have three wires in the back its going to the servo
the other wires one red & one white and probably two smaller ones goto the motor & sensor. so most likely you have a corotor with two lnb's (c & ku)

Yes, basically that's what I'm saying. The 920 won't store positions for a USALS motor (Diseqc 1.2) and a DVB receiver won't store positions for an actuator.

Yes, it does matter. C-band will only work with/from a C-band lnb/lnbf and ku-band will only work with/from a ku-band lnb/lnbf. You can't cross them, it won't work. With a DVB receiver, you will use a Diseqc Switch (probably), where one will go to port A or 1 and the other will go to port B or 2. And you will have the settings in the receiver set for it to work for the right one. You could also use an A/B switch as I did when I 1st started with FTA, but the Diseqc Switch is much better, trust me!

So that's why I would need the V box, it's to store the sats.

Now I'm wondering if I got my coax cables mixed up on the back of the 920. How does one know which is which? Do you just try one in a slot and if it doesn't work then you switch them?

This is what I have. So would that work with a DVB without having to get a LNBF?

You could try to change them and see if anything better happens, if nothing else (assuming the battery is toast) the analog might start to work. If you have managed to put them on wrong, that may be why you didn't get any analog channels. I think (and I could be wrong) that you should be getting the analog channels, even with the battery dead. At this point, it won't hurt to give it a try? If you get a Pansat or some other DVB receiver, you will need to get a Diseqc Switch for it, and then hook both cables to the diseqc switch and run a coax from the diseqc switch to the DVB receiver. The settings in the receiver will make the correct ports work for C-band and ku-band.

Okay I switched the coax cables, and started over. I am getting a better signal now as I go into the dish limit settings.. I am going to tinker with it a while and I'll be back in a little while.

So I will still get the analog channels with a dead battery? Cool--I'll try to find them and will let you know what happens.

well i think nps said a bad unit

the unit should still pick up analog but when power goes out it will reset everything ..... but setting this up isn't hard youve been doing it the last three nights ... and once you have all the satellites marked and stored then you can jot them down for when the reset happens .... you just can't use the unit to subscribe to programming. that part is toast. i thought i mentioned a cable swape the other night lol oh well , i don't think of everything. i blame nightshifting lol

Guys, I think i got it fixed. In setting limits, i got to a black screen that says "This Descrambler does not have current authorization"......It gives me my origional unit ID number before the unit broke, and tells me to contact my program provider. I'm going to redo the settings like we did last night, and will keep you posted. It looks like I had my coaxes reversed.

George, you may have mentioned it, but i was so frustrated that i didn't think to switch those two.

It says VIDEOCIPHER UNIT SETUP when i press options-9-1 and the dish is pointing due south. Either channel 1 or 7 gives me the same screen.

Lizzie, there is a separate battery in the Videocipher 2 module, so it's probably good. You could subscribe to a few VC2 channels. But, you have got to try for the Digicipher 2 channels again. I still have hope!
