TVBob - I have no issues with you posting here - but since FiOS is your PREFERRED provider - how come you have made a total of 1 post in the FiOS forums?

FiOS has its limitations also - how come no rants there as well?

Well, as you can see, it's not the busiest fios community around here. There are a few more popular places I post regularly.

And why don't you contribute something positive here by getting those forums more popular? This place is only popular because someone STARTED IT and got people to want to join - can you meet that challenge?
 
Why do you care so much about what D* does nationally - when you rave in your signature about a niche provider that has very little coverage ANYWHERE? I mean, isn't FiOS behind their announced roll-out plans in something like 40 areas right now?
What DIRECTV does is newsworthy. What they announce is considerably less exciting. Thus far, there have been a whole lot of announcements.

Oh, Direct has done some positive things. They've built and launched satellites, and that's the first prerequisite to adding additional HD programming. It's just the ad nauseum advertising about "soon" having "the capacity" to offer "up to #" HD channels that gets annoying after the first 8 months or so.

I couldn't agree any more - but to me its nothing than most of the other providers are ALSO doing. I get FiOS mail 2-3 times a week - FiOS is literally pasted on every billboard and sign around here - they have flooded the airwaves with commercials, and at the same time Cablevsion is doing the same thing. For gosh sakes, Cablevision has an ad on EVERY Yankee game as the HD sponsor of the NYYankees.

It is so fiercely competitive now for subs, but it is not only a DIRECTV issue.

And it is also for things like nutri systems. If I see that woman saying she has a 'hot-smoking body' again I might puke. But ads get subs and customers, and pay for the programming, so its time to just skip/ignore them ALL.

He wasn't defending directv, the complaint about the fios receivers is a just one, but as mentioned there are more options for fios power users who want more features and storage, the standard box is fine for the average sub though.

Yes, we will see....I don't think it's a lock by any means directv will be the clearcut leader in hd channels offered.

The whole point being - many companies in many DIFFERENT businesses have very repetitive ad campaigns. ALL are irritating IMO. But to single out one company over and over like they are the only guilty ones is ridiculous.

If you don't like the ad, mute the TV - use your DVR skip feature - or whatever. These ads are NOT going to go away in our lifetimes.

I also sense that some people must fear that those D* ads are just way too effective - that maybe some subs will change to D* because of them. Well, guess what. Even the cable execs (in the video that Scott G attached to the other thread) admitted that those ads ARE VERY EFFECTIVE. Does anyone here really care if someone else switches providers? Does it put money in their pocket when it happens? I see posts in the various forums that have people complaining and saying they are switching (D to E, E to D, back to cable, over to FiOS, etc.).

To each their own I say.

Pretty much agreed - but why would anyone switch to DISH (or FiOS) now? For example, if I was currently a cable customer wanting to go to HD, I would wait until Oct-Nov to see what was launched before I made my decision except........

As you correctly say I would not go to DISH, they don't have YES (SD or HD), and that is my primary channel 6 months of the year.

i switched back originally for extra innings and figured another season of sunday ticket wouldn't upset me, especially after florida's nfl teams stunk so bad last season.

initially, i wasn't even going to put up a slimline dish as i was going to keep cable for my hd. but doing that would have been cost prohibitive and i knew the added hd channels were coming. common sense dictated the rest.

No doubt this is not the place or time for this so slap my face but....I like others have wasted some more time looking at TV Bo....ooops, Questioners past posts and there is no doubt that he (you, if your reading this) is just a shill for someone. I would assume it's an E* thing becaues he tries to stay away from sounding like he backs them. There is no other reason for his posts. Anti D, yet he has it,,, pro's for E* yet he doesn't have it? Bob, can't you see yet that you are just plain not wanted in these forums, what keeps you coming back? Seriously, what keeps you coming back?? You sound like an intelligent guy, but your posts are so full of spin BS that it's truly making many of us sick. Also unjustly in my opinion trying to keep others from getting D*, why???
 
I have been with E* for more than 10 years and I'm here to tell you that I am staying put until I see what other providers will be offering. Picture quality is more important to me than number of HD channels. I hope D* succeeds in their plans to increase both quantity and quality. I hope E* does too. Since I pay a large monthly fee for programming, I am loyal to no one. The provider who has the best quality (HD and SD) and the HD channels I want, at the best price, will get my business, period. Sports programming does not motivate me and neither does marketing statements. Time will tell.
